Woodcliff Lake, NJ – September 30, 2010... BMW of North America is submitting a letter to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) this week announcing a voluntary recall of approximately 198,000 V8 and V12-powered BMW 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series, and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars models produced between the 2002 and 2010 model years. In the affected vehicles, a leak may develop in the power braking system, potentially causing a vacuum loss and consequent reduction of power braking assistance. Mechanical braking is still available to slow and stop the vehicle. There has been no report of accidents or injuries.

Had a look and couldnt see this anywhere but it is something you need to know if you have a 5, 6, 7 series with V8 or V12 engines:

Just saw it on CNN yesterday. It is a voluntary recall related to decreased brake boost under certain circumstances. It does not mean you have no braking, but instead the car is not helping you so you have to press the brakes harder.

PSA:
For anyone with a vehicle that fits these guidelines, please sit back, and do not flood your local dealer with calls. The dealer can do nothing at this point. The recall is not official.
They are in the process of determining what vehicle will be effected.
Potentially effected vehicle are as follows:
2002-08 BMW 745i/Li, 750i/Li, and 760i/Li
2007-08 BMW Alpina B7
2004-10 BMW 645i and 650i
2004-10 BMW 545i and 550i
By "POTENTIALLY" that means that not ALL of the above vehicle will be effected. Once BMW NA determines which ones are, you will get a letter in writing advising you as such.
Until then, if you need any more information, call BMW NA Customer Relations at 800-525-7417 or email customer.relations@bmwna.com. Calling your dealer will get you no where.
Hopefully people do not blow this out of proportion like they usually do with recalls. Even if you have an effected vehicle... you are not going to die, burst into flames, or randomly loose control of your vehicle. At this time all they have been able to determine is that you may or MAY NOT loose power assist with your braking system. This means that you WILL NOT loose the ability to brake. The manual brakes of the vehicle WILL FUNCTION PROPERLY AND WILL SLOW DOWN/STOP THE VEHICLE WITH NO PROBLEMS. You just may have to step a little harder on the brakes....

BMW has prepared an inspection and repair procedure and will distribute replacement parts throughout the North American dealer network. Letters will be sent by First Class mail to owners of affected vehicles in the coming weeks, requesting the scheduling of a service appointment with an Authorized BMW Center to check their vehicle.
Drivers who experience reduced power braking assistance should immediately schedule a service appointment with an Authorized BMW Center. Customers with further questions should contact BMW Customer Relations at 1-800-525-7417 or email customer.relations@bmwna.com.

I would advise anyone with any of these cars to take them in and have the repairs made. If you ask me, this should have been done YEARS ago. I've repaired numerous cars that have COMPLETELY lost POWER braking. BMW makes this sound like no big deal, but rest assured, it's a SIGNIFICANT loss of braking power. Enough to where you have to jam the pedal down to keep from rolling down a hill.
Also, if you have an oil leak (which you will if you are experiencing symptoms, as this is what causes the deterioration of the diaphragm in the brake booster) stemming from the vacuum pump, this will fix this issue as well.
