The new one series that is scheduled to be coming out will basicly be a RWD mini. I cannot find a picture right now, but what would you guys pick?

Both are candidates for my second car. I test drove a Cooper last week and the 1-Series is going to have to be one heck of a car to beat it.
One thing the 1-Series has going for it is that it will supposedly offer 6-cyl variants.
Some pictures are on this Web site:

Hmmm... I think I will have to see the 1-Series in person, but from that web site, I will stick with the MINI, for aesthics, anyway. The Coup-ishness is nice, but the grille seems too Pontiac to me. The rear of the convert is more S2000.... Still, maybe in person it will be better. I hated the Z4 when it come out, now I like its styling. It grew on me. I like the X5 better than the other SUVs....especially in white, sport suspension and with a stick shift....this kinda looks like the X5s little brother.
But, all said, I would MUCH rather have my MINI than the X5!

I think they are more different than you think....
That being said, it's a matter of what you need where you live (FWD vs RWD), and which car appeals to you, looks-wise, and most importantly, after driving 1 of each, which you like best, cuz I'm sure there will be differences behind the wheel...
I had read about a 230i, essentially a 1 series, 2 doors, with a trunk (vs hatch like in the pic below) with the M54 motor... that would likely move pretty well if the weight is kept down...

These pictures of the one series are not the same that I was seeing. However, even if only available in a 4cyl, I would still take the hatchback with the two doors, simply because it would be RWD.
If a 6cyl model were available, that would be icing on the cake.

No one else thinks this looks kinda VW Golf-ish?? Is that the price range they're gonna be aiming for?
This new series is gonna put a lot of young punks into bimmers. I can hear the rice cannons already...

I have to find that pic of the 2 door with the trunk, also quite nice looking...
The black picture really does look Golf-ish. Sheesh! Like I said, I will have to see it in person to make my judgement...and...Drive it, of course!! :)

This is what I found on web:
bmw 1 series : New baby BMW for just £15,000 on sale in the UK from Mid 2005.The new 1-Series should measure in at 4150mm in length & 1700mm wide, 100mmshorter than the current 3-Series Compact. The two box design with it's engine mounted longitudinally needs a longerbonnet that it's rivals with transverse arrangement.Thin framed doors give the new 1-Series a "Coupe" like appearance.Production versions of the 1-Series will flaunt the sharp-edged look similarto the concept CS1 shown at the Geneva Motor show earlier this year.Up to 5 different variations are planned, 3-door hatchback, a 5-doorhatchback & a 2-door coupe.A four seater Cabrio & 5-door touring with higher roof, will get approvalproviding the main stream models are a success.Engines will start with the 1.6, 1.8 & 2.0 litre petrol & will use BMW'sValvetronic system, later the Direct-Injection system form the V12 760iL maybe used. Two versions of BMW's 2.0 Litre common-rail turbodiesel engines will bealloy blocks with the latest Bosch injection technology.M2 engine is believed to be a 2.2 or 2.4 Litre with electro-hydraulic valveactuation that allows it to rev to 9000Rpm & should produce 240Bhp. Costingapprox £25,000 at today's prices.

I'd get a 1er in a heart beat if it will run $25,000 or less and have at least 200 hp. I don't care how it looks. Only thing that would delay my decision is an ///M version. Just give me an engine, suspension, torsen diff and a 6-speed. And sell it for a price so I don't have to sell my wife's Mini.
