View Full Version : Smoke from back right side of motor

After having realized I had a coolant leak, I replaced all the hoses but one on the driver's side of the motor. Now, I have smoke coming from the back right side of the motor (passenger side). Smells like coolant.. what is back that that might cause this?

Also, after having drained the coolant completely, I added only about 3/4 a gallon back into the system before it appeared full. Is this enough? And is there anything special one has to do to bleed the system? Seems like that's not enough to do the job.

The motor is the M30.

Thanks

do you have oil in your coolant? or coolant in your oil? (milky color on the dipstick) or leave puddles of coolant where you park for extented period of time? you could be losing coolant from the system because of something else. that's where my motor was smoking from when my HG went bad. not coincidentally, that's the spot where the head gasket had failed...

EDIT-get under the car (safely) while it's running or just been shut off and see if you can spot coolant coming out of the block, or hopefully from a hose

yea.. neither of the two.. fortunately/unfortunately. but after having looked on realoem and seeing that all the hoses are left side only.. i'm starting to think maybe it's HG and maybe there is a breach on the outermost side of the gasket only?
