I am purchasing a 02 m3 with 38k miles thats 1,100 miles away and i cant make the time to go get it, unfortunately.

I am on uship.com and a couple others. Who here has bought a car and had it shipped without going through ebay or similar?

Also does anyone have any advice on enclosed vs open? HUGE $ difference there

Thanks guys:buttrock

PICK IT UP! lol.. Mine was 2200 mines away. Best decision Ive ever made :). Although it was on the coast of Cali and I drove 300 miles of the Pacific Coastal Highway :).

But anyways. Id def get an enclosed trailer - worth the extra $$ any day.

Well the problem is timing, I literally can't in any way drive this car back. I would LOVE to, though.

Ugh the enclosed ones are so expensive, lol.

I feel like the open ones are fine if its a big enough company which the one im currently looking at is, because its either on the lower tier behind the truck itself or on the upper tier and up way high. What I was worried about is rock chips, and they dont seem all that much of a cause for concern after thinking about those things.

Never heard a single problem with enclosed ones and everyone who uses them swear by them.

Do a quick search and look though the multiple other threads on this same topic. Good luck, enjoy the car.

Sight unseen? With 38k miles it is probably OK I guess.

If you were looking for a superior, low-mileage car, just go with enclosed. You won't wonder if that rock chip was there when it boarded the carrier and it won't be filthy when delivered.

Well, sight unseen but with a PPI. And with thorough research on the PO (1 owner car) I am comfortable with it. Which those who know me would never expect me to buy a car I haven't seen. I am still in shock but I can't think of a valid reason to stop the sale.

True about the filth and potential rock chip. I guess it is worth it.

Call me in the morning if you want. I work for a brokerage company but I can see if we have any preferred carriers depends on where the car is located.. Rcgauto.com 800-381-2068. X302

I've actually gotten a couple of offers for that, but it doesnt really save much of anything and puts 1,100 miles extra on the car, or else I'd have had a guy that messaged me last night do that.

My other question is: When not going through a third party, how does the paper work go? So I send him a boat load of money, without much reassurance the car will make it on the truck with the title inside, other than trusting him?

I guess I could hire a 3rd party to broker the deal?

I had my E36 moved from FL to IN in an open trailer.

It was sitting behind a Bentley most of the trip.

No problems at all with the move.

where in NY are you at?
hard to believe the closest car to you is that far away.

1100 isn't that far... my advice to you would be not to post good finds on BFS unless you got deposit on it, last time I did that someone scooped it in less than 12hrs
...you live you learn... :)

just make sure they are bonded and insured...I have friends that have used Magic Carpet

http://www.magiccarpetautotransport.com/

They have reasonable rates too.

Good luck!

Check out the sponsor of this particular subforum. Intricity Lines. http://www.intercitylines.com/Default.cfm?code=bf&bannerID=84

From what I understand they are great and offer discounts to BF.c members. It's worth the call IMO.

I went down this road, but ended up driving to Virginia to pick my car up ;) Luckily I had family down there to check it out real quick and make sure it was as advertised. I'd hate dealing for a car I've never seen.
