View Full Version : How Many MPG Do You Get?

EUPHORIA

I'm averaging 18MPG in my E39.

Most of my driving is on the freeway, BUT, I live in L.A. so most of the time I"m stuck in traffic. And when it clears I"m so mad, that I just punch it and drive like a maniac. Neither of the above cases help on good gas comsumption :D

So list what you drive, what type and conditions of driving, and what your average MPG is.

Just wanna see how mine compares to the rest.

If I drive my car hard, I'm getting around 13-15 mpg.
I usually get 20-23 mpg with medium-hard driving.

On average (mostly city) I get about 23-28mpg, on the highway I can crank out 30+ no prob.

EUPHORIA - your driving conditions sound a lot like mine, which sucks, but I get about 20-23mpg on an average tank.

A new MPG thread! :D

I'm getting 12-13 since I got the exhaust :)

I have NEVER gotten above 21 MPG, even when I drove late at night for a whole week w/ no traffic. I do a lot of accel. and decel. (due to L.A. traffic or due to some spirited driving) which would explain the 18MPG, but I still think that's a bit low. My best on a full tank has been about 360 miles on 18 gallons = 20 MPG, and this was in non traffic and non aggressive driving days.

I drive about 60% in horrible city conditions, here in Newport it seems there are stop lights or signs every 20 feet. And about 40% freeway, which is really not that much better and I average about 20-21mpg in my 328is. Pure city I get 17-19 depending on how aggressive I drive. Pure highway trips I get 29-30mpg, not bad for an inline six. Im happy.:D

98% highway driving and 2% city. I hardly ever get stuck in traffic. But, when I do, its traffic is going about 40-50mph. But, I get around 26-28mpg. Its really nice compared to my old truck. Which got about 15mpg.

there's nothing you can do about mileage so don't worry about it.

Well, driving mostly on the highlway, I get a little better than 10 MPG in my truck, but you Bimmer guys are running high octane, I get 87.

obc avg 25.5 with 70% hwy and 30% city. I hit at least 100mph 1-2x a day getting on the I-15 S. 80mph on the fwy will get me about 29mpg. My M3/4 doesn't get quite as high, but its close. 24mpg avg. I can do 325 miles before the warning light goes on. 350 when the light does go on.

95 M3 5 spd with Jim Conforti Euro HFM kit here. I get 24-26 MPG running around home which is some in town driving, a little interstate (@ 80 mph), and mostly 2 lane country roads. I generally get 26-30 MPG on the open road on longer trips. Over the past 8 months, I have averaged 26.1 MPG according to my OBC. And I have recalibrated my OBC so that it consistently reads +/- 0.5 MPG of actual MPG.

Shoot, my 4x4 Toyota pickup with a V8 and automatic transmission gets better mileage than many of you guys. I generally average 15-19 MPG with it.

I get about 20-25mpg in town and about 35-38 at a steady cruise on the interstate. Ive always thought those numbers were kind of high but hey, Im not complaining.

I'm averaging about 26-27mpg mixed highway/city driving. If I do 100% highway I'm usually cranked up to 90+ so the mileage doesn't improve.

Damn, those are some high numbers. After owning my car for 15 days now, 394.50 miles, my OBC states 15.7 mpg. My calculations show about 14.804 mpg.

Is that low? I've got a 1997 M3. I do, however, drive pretty hard and it's pretty much all city driving. :)

Little over 17mpg combined city/hwy in the EVO. Damn turbo..... and damn heavy foot. MY old M3 averaged around 20 city/hwy and a little more than 30 on the highway.

Most of you are getting some good #'s. I can't really state difference between highway and city driving cuz in L.A. it all SUCKS. Traffic all the time.

So another question, for those of you who drive in the Los Angeles area, or an area similar (w/ lots of stop and go traffic), what kind of mileage are you getting? I keep getting around 18mpg and it's pissing me off

MMNJTWA
12-19-2003, 08:11 PM
in traffinc going to work and driving through multiple schhol zones i average about 16-19... on the interstate i get anywhere from 23-28... on a full tank i usually average around 20 and get close to 320 miles before the warning light comes on.... (but that is b/c i need to replace my t-stat and i don't want to push my engine too hard, as soon as i do fan delete, new WP, and new t-stat i probably won't see those good of # anymore)

In LA (Los Angeles, CA), 18 mpg is awesome! I'm getting like 15-16mpg! But then again, I drive my car pretty hard. I just keep it at 4k rpm. Hehe...just love that power! ;)

Do you reset after each tank? I reset consumption 1 after each tank and leave 2 alone. After a reset, the numbers will jump all over the place depending on how you're driving and move less as the miles accumulate if your obc is working right.

The number in 2 has not changed in a long time, 23.2mpg. I am assuming that the OBC can only compute for a certain number of miles before it just displays the last mileage it was able to compute. Can anyone confirm that?

The obc seems to be fairly accurate if I reset every tank. Within a couple of tenths of my own numbers.

Is everyone using 93 octane gas?
How about additives? injector cleaner?

I'm really surprised with the gas mileage Im getting, sometimes 28-29mpg
usually 17-20mpg

City/spirited driving, I average about 18-20mpg, highway 26-28. If I get stuck in traffic that can go to like ~22-25ish.

93 octane only. Usually Shell, sometimes Exxon, Mobil, Amoco, etc. Never anything like Wawa/Racetrac/Shitgo/etc.
