Timing chain??? I didn't think timing chains needed replacing. There might be TSB on the oil pan gaskets. That seemed to be a common issue. If not, I think it's a pretty big job. My car had it covered under warranty.

I've heard of replacing guides and tentioners, but never the actual chain.

There was a guides and tensioner issue which affected cold start and caused a "death rattle" on the earlier R56 (2007-2009) Cooper S models. Supposedly, the newer cars have this issue resolved.

never ever in the three years ive been working on mini's had to replace a timing chain on the r50, r52, and r53. but for the r56 generation i have. oil pan and valve cover oil leaks are common along with crank sensor o-ring leaking. sometime but very rare the timing cover will leak.
