hi! can anyone gimme a picture of how a Valet Key looks like? I've got an 07 328i with just the main key and a super secret key hidden in the main key used to lock the glove box.

Can valet key lock/unlock the car?

The Valet key is the key fob minus the "super secret" key. Use the "super secret" key to look the glovebox and trunk and keep it for yourself.

oh really? so with out the super secret glove box key, the key fob is the valet? so no revving over a certain rpm when the super secret key is detached?

Was that ever a feature on any BMW or any other car? That would be new to me:embarrasm. Sorry, if you give your car to a valet, you are assuming a risk. They can always crash it at 2K rpm anyway.

Believe it or not, yes! :) The Corvette ZR1 had a second "power key" that limited the power to about 50% when it wasn't in the dashboard and turned to on. Essentially with the key out the car would act like a normal L98 TPI based Corvette engine.

But yeah... anyone can even crash a car at idle. :D

Read again, I asked if it ever was a feature on a BMW. I would be worried about any valet touching my car, let alone driving/parking it. I'd park 2 blocks away and take a cab if that's what it takes rather than take the risk with valets.

Just curious, does the fob not have a function to access the trunk? Can't it be popped from the car anyway?

I don't see how removing the key inside will keep anything more safe other than glove box...

Nope (assuming you remove the physical key from the fob) and Nope, the trunk cannot be popped from inside if you switch the valet lock on. So once you do those and lock the glove box, the only way to access the trunk is for someone to break the glove box and switch off the valet lock, something I assume most valet would not attempt since owners will notice it right away.

Good to know for me who for some reason never bothered to read the manual. I usually just unclip the key from the ring and hand it the entire FOB to the Valet. Plus other than the pennies in the ash tray there isnt anything of value in my car worth locking up.

Then again I've only been to a place fancy enough to have Valet parking maybe twice, both on dates and obviously my wallet sticks with me and my date took her purse inside with her valuables too. Plus Im usually fumbling like an idiot when the guy comes to open her door and I'm like wtf are you trying to open my car for weird man, oh wait this place has Valet. Damn you German engineer who puts the unlock on the center console while Im fumbling with the door controls and retracting the sidemirrors. By the time I finally get out of the car Im just like heres the key go. Fortunately she never notices my retardness cause the place is fancy and its like "omg here?!"

Now what I do wish is like the Corvette RPM limiter is if there was an option that locked the sound system in the off position. Without fail the car is always returned with the hiphop station at full blast and my equalizer attempted to be toyed with.

In such a case don't even bother removing the key from the fob, there is no point in doing all that work if you have nothing in the trunk or glovebox.
As I said, I'd rather never use a valet when driving my own car. If weather permits, I'll self park and walk. If not, dropping off my ride and then self parking, or self parking and then taking a cab are safer options. I've seen/read too many valet nightmares to trust it to anyone even at high end places.

lol Thanks. Just curious how you stumbled upon this thread and made your 1st ever post here for this! Anyway, welcome to the forum, and thanks for giving me a new piece of info I did not know. Got a BMW, or just a Vette?

yea but if u have a coupe cant u just get to the trunk anyway by sticking your arm through the middle of the back seats and folding the seats down, iirc all couple can fold their seats down but i think its the only car that has that option??
