I have a 97 M3 coupe with the black interior. The headliner color is technically called "Anthracite".

Anyone know where I can get a headliner?

I just got this email from BavAuto:

We are very sorry to inform you that we have recently been notified that the following item is no longer available from BMW and could not be ordered for you.

Part # 51 44 2 253 560

This part has been canceled from your order and a refund has been issued to your credit card. Please allow 3-5 business days, depending on your bank, for this credit to post to your account.

I'll sell you my black sunroof headliner if you want it.

Do you want a new one just because your fabric is falling? If you don't want to DIY a local upholstery shop can redo it as well. Shop hear quoted me ~150 if I wanted to do it with a microsuede material, closer to $100 with oem felt like material.

Yes, my fabric is falling down and I'm afraid to drive with the windows down - lol

I will make a few more calls to see what I can come up with. I'm not sure if buying a used one works, unless I can pick-it up. It must be hell to ship.

Just re-glue the existing fabric if it is in good shape.

remove yourself, take to upholstery shop, pay them the 100-150 to fix it, and reinstall

professional fix, and save a ton of money

It's not very difficult to re-do it yourself.

I completely refurbished mine last weekend, with new suede-(like) material, including the pillars.

I took my time, and it took about 7 or 8 hours total.

Materials including two cans of 3M 90 glue was about $70.

Getting the sunroof out and back in was a bit of a pain, but not so bad once I figured it out using the forums, and trial/error.

I gotta redo mine too in the future. The fabric is starting to sag. I gotta start reading the diy's on here and maybe those'll convince me to do it myself.

Can someone point me to the *best* DIY for an E36 headliner?

this one is pretty good:

i used the same fabric just last week, but had a local trim/headliner shop put it on the roof and all six pillars for me. saved me some time, and probably some frustration. this fabric looks very, very good...much better than stock, imho.

some claim that the 3M adhesives aren't durable to the heat experienced by a headliner.

best adhesive is a hi-temp contact cement known as "landau top," which is short for "DAP Landau Top & Trim High Heat Resistant Contact Cement." can be found online, but not easily. cannot be shipped to all states, presumably because of the chemicals contained therein.

good luck!
