I'm shopping for a used E92 (?) convertible to replace my long-in-tooth E36. I'm insisting on a Beige/Tan interior so that it stays cooler in the sun.

Question 1: Is leather or leatherette cooler?
Question 2: Is leather worth the extra $$? I have leather in my E36 and I'm not all that happy with it (durability-wise).

I think I've found the car I want and it has everything I want EXCEPT leather seating.

Leatherette will definitely last longer. After 3 years, my interior was indiscernible from when brand new. I don't think with leather it would have been the same, esp. with kids.
Some say leather is a bit cooler since it breathes better, but I am not sure if you will feel such a difference on a hot day, i.e. both will probably be hot.
The only downside I see to leatherette is the color choices, you only have 2 or 3. Also the leather seats do have a bit nicer stitching, but that is nitpicking.
