Hi,
I don't have a Bimmer, but I have a set of Bimmer wheels; they're Rondell R58s.
I bought them from The Wheel Exchange back in 2006 to put on my Pontiac Firebird. I ended up going in another direction, and never used them. Now, I'm looking to sell them, but I need to find out more about them, and what they fit.
Here's the information on the wheels:
Rondell R58 (Staggered Set)

Size (front): 17x8.5"
Offset (front): ET13
Size (rear): 17x10"
Offset (rear): ET15
Bolt pattern: 5-lug 120mm
Structure: 1-piece cast alloy
Finish: Sparkle Silver Painted Face and a Deep Polished Lip
Fitments: BMWhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://us.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/dc/blank.html?bn=470&.intl=us&.lang=en-US#) Exclusive
X-rayed for integrity
Made in Germany
I've measured them, and the front wheels have a backspace of 5 1/4". The rear wheels have a backspace of 6 1/16".
These aren't a bolt-on wheel on Firebirds. It takes adapters, so there's not a lot of interest in that community. What I need to know is what models/years Bimmers these wheels fit. My understanding is they fit 3 and 5 series, but I don't know if that's correct, or what years they fit.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
Sean

those fit older 5 and 7 series, the offset is too low for 3 series
also check the centerbore if it's 74.1 or 72.6
E39 5 series have 74.1 centerbore, while all others have 72.6

I wonder if they would fit a 04 Z4? PM me with a price, we might be able to do something.

they'd fit, but the stance would be pretty aggressive though

oh certainly not!
It'd be awesome if you can pull em off, but the car would have to be a bit lower to achieve that

Well lets see what he comes back with for a price, it may all be a moot point if he wants something out of the norm.
Thanks :D

OK, I must be doing something wrong. On a GM car, the centerbore is uniform. On these wheels, the centerbore gets smaller in several steps, moving from back-front. I can't get my inside micrometer inside the centerbore at it's narrowest point, it hits the wheel lip when I extend it. Eyeballing it closely with a ruler, I get 2 19/32". None of the conversion calculators I've found will work with that fraction, so here's how I got it.
2" would be 50.8mm
25.4 / 32 = .79375
.79375 x 19 = 15.08125
50.8 + 15.08125 = 65.88125, rounded off to 65.9 mm.
I've checked the measurement several times, and I don't believe I could be off by more than 1/32" in either direction.

you know you should measure centerbore on the rear of the wheel right?
that's what goes on your hub
and on BMW's the CB is uniform aswell, accept for the E39 for some odd reason

OK, I measured across the back, but with those two measurements being so close, I'm just not sure. I still can't get the micrometer on it, so I'm using a ruler and eyeballing it.
It looks like 2 7/8, which works out to be 73mm
If I'm off a little long, though, it would be the smaller diameter you indicated, as just 1/16" smaller works out to be 71.4mm
If I'm off a little short, it would be the larger diameter you indicated, as just 1/16" larger works out to be 74.6mm
I'm going to have to get ahold of a digital inside micrometer to be sure.

I done goofed up the sizes :D
it's 72.6 and 74.1
if you say 73, then I'm almost certain they're 72.6 which means they can be bolted to pretty much any BMW

That seems curious to me. I thought BMW wheels were lug-centric, not hub-centric. If that is the case, wouldn't the larger diameter center bore be the one that would fit pretty much any BMW?
Thanks very much for your help, BTW
I have to take a tool back to harbor freight today, so if they have a cheap digital micrometer, I'll pick one up.
Well lets see what he comes back with for a price ...
As much as possible!
I'm getting ready for work now. I need to figure out what it'll cost me to ship & insure them. I'll do that when I get home tonight and PM you.

hubcentric, so you'd need hubcentric rings for the 74.1 wheels to fit properly
all the E36 guys running the E39 style 5's have hubcentric rings on them

I'm lost. If I have the smaller diameter centerbore, I don't see how it would fit on the larger diameter hubs.
If I have the larger diameter centerbore, then wouldn't it fit on the larger hubs without the hubcentric rings, and on the smaller diameter hubs with the hubcentric rings?
These wheels came it hubcentric rings, by the way.

100% true
All I'm saying is that most OEM BMW wheels are 72.1, there's a few that are E39 (74.1) specific
So if they came with the rings then they're definately 74.1, the rings make them 72.6
so in short; these will fit any BMW :D

But I'm sure there are some models that the offsets on my wheels aren't compatable with. Earlier, you said they would fit "older 5 and 7 series". Can you tell me what year ranges?
luke318is
09-03-2010, 03:01 PM
5 series:
E12 E28 E34 E39
7 series:
E23 E32 E38
6 series:
E24
8 series:
E31
these are the models they'll fit
you can also bolt em onto an E36, but then rolled fenders and stretched tires will be nescessary

STIHLBOLTS, I don't know what I'm doing wrong here, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to PM you. I'm on about 20 different forums, most of which use this architecture, but I've never run into this before.

I would not recommend putting those on an e36. Also, the hub centering rings that come with these wheels are cheap plastic. In short time, they fall apart and must be replaced with metal ones if you plan to put them on anything but an e39. Mine have always had issues with this until i literally taped the hub and squeezed the rings over to make them tight enough to not shimmy. Beware of MAJOR understeer with this staggered setup. That deep dish 10" wide rear is for looks only. Even with 265 tires, it's a bit too much.

Yes, the rings with these wheels are plastic. What is a good source for metal ones?
Oh still my favorite wheel!

metal will rust to the hub
they're made of aluminium

But, I thought aluminum was metal. An alloy, but isn't that still metal?

sure
one that has low density and doesn't corrode
it oxidizes, but I'm sure the rings are anodized, so there's no chance of that happening
atleast every set of rings I had were anodized
btw google aluminium hubcentric rings, i'm sure there's a place near you that sells em

Oh, I knew aluminum wouldn't rust. When you said "metal will rust to the hub", though, it sounded like you were saying aluminum wasn't metal.
I'm guessing you meant "steel", or "iron", instead of "metal". Stainless steel wouldn't rust to the hub.
I'd also think you wouldn't want to use a centering ring made of a material harder than the aluminum the wheels are made of. if something does wear, you'd want it to be the ring, not the wheel, wouldn't you?

the only purpose of the ring is to provide space between the hub and wheel
it doesn't move or grind against anything, and no force is being put on it
it is what it is, an aluminium ring
IMO, the plastic ones are fine too, never had any problems with them either
unless you're gonna go offroading or run crazy camber

Sorry if I missed it in the thread but did you have a price listed for these?

I haven't listed them yet. Was planning on doing so tomorrow.
I'll take 1,000.00 for them, including shipping, with insurance, to the lower 48.

I am sure that's a pretty good deal, but the more I look this over/under steer issue I think I am going to stay closer to even wheel sizes.
