My 335i is in the shop once again, after 8+ fuel pumps and multiple tow trucks over the past year. It now has 51k miles, and therfore no more warranty. The service manager at my dealer knows everything I've been through, and is supposed to see about getting me into a different car. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, and what type of compensation to expect coming from BMW. I've heard stories of people receiving $2500, which doesn't seem like much to replace a $50k car...

It's not a $50k car anymore though, it's now a $25k car... A $2500 rebate is 10% of the value of the car now...

This is true, however IMO anyone walking in off the street could point at any car on that lot, and say "I'll buy that car, but only if you give it to me for $2500 off!" and any dealer is going to say yes. It just doesn't seem like much compared to everything I've had to deal with over the last year.

I would assume this is on top of any extra deal you strike with the dealer on a new car, isn't it? If not, then yeah, not a great deal if it is just 2500 off the MSRP of a new car.

I believe with that amount of trouble you could do far better on a BMW assisted trade out if you politely ask your dealer to have BMW directly involved in the process. ( I know, since I did that and got a very well supported deal t otrade my similar 335 for a brand new 328). BMW is well aware of buyer frustration with the twin turbo motor's fuel system issues and would rather see you in a different BMW than an Audi. Being slightly out of warranty should not make a big difference now. I think they are in a position to do a lot better than just $2,500 towards a trade.

Since the warranty on the fuel pump has been extended to 10 years / 120,000 miles, you shouldn't have any problem getting it replaced a ninth time if you need to.

8 fuel pumps?
I'd expect a dealer to sell me a car at cost if I was still willing to stick with the brand after an experience like that... That's insane.

Sounds like you have a great case for lemon law claim. In California the car is depreciated from the 1st failure, so maybe you can get a much higher value for your car that way, than through a dealer, who has no incentive to give you a good deal (no matter what they tell you). You need to investigate your state's laws. There are lawyers that specialize in this and again in California they are paid by manufaturer when you win your case, so it costs you nothing. Good luck.
