Hello, you guys might not like this idea, but I'm not sure about it either, I was just told to do this by a bodyshop worker. So I went to get my fenders rolled at a shop and the guy that does all the body work told me I could sand the back of my wheels(where the wheel bolts on) to make the offset higher. My rims are 17x8.5 et13 so basically, if I would sand off 10mm, they would be et23 and with a fender roll allowing me to have much more room for bigger tires rather than my stretched 215s. My question is, has anyone ever heard of shredding the back of the wheel to make the offset higher? It was my first time hearing it so I was stunned myself.

Unless you get this professionally done, by an expert machinist, I would trash the idea. There's just too much that could go wrong, having a surface slightly off, would create all sorts of vibration and safety issues. Also, it sounds like a good idea to get a higher offset, but aren't those ACS TypeIIs already fairly wide, you could run into issues with the inside lip hitting the shock.
BTW, sanding off 10mm worth of metal sounds like a TON of work even if done mechanically.
You would be fine with a 17x8.5" et23 rim though, but not with a 255 tire. Also, once the wheels are machined, they could go down in value, if you plan on re-selling them.
