View Full Version : Question on refilling coolant

So yesterday I did the FDK, and right now I'm trying to refill the coolant in the system, so after I connected all the hoses and everything, I looked at the reservoir tank and all the coolant in there is STILL in there, and I can't really add anymore, but I know I lost a ton of coolant since it spilled into my little drain container.

Any idea why the bims isn't taking anymore coolant? I have the engine running right now, it's warming up, waiting to see if it will go down, but so far I got nothing....

It helps to elevate the front end of your car.
What is FDK? Fan delete??
Is the cap off the reservoir?

Also....the heater is not blowing any hot air whatsoever, just cool air like the blower is the only thing blowing, the engine has warmed up at the noon position and it's just chilling there. Please guys, any help?

Thermostat prolly needs to open..

Sorry about that, yes the FDK is the fan delete kit. They said it was suppose to blow hot air from the heater if properly bled and it's not blowing any hot air, the engine is just staying at noon and the coolant in the damn reservoir is NOT getting sucked in...

Elevate front of car

So should I take it for a drive or something?

Have you jacked the front of the car up??

It's on an incline so it's like kind of jacked up, how much would i have to jack it up?

Also on a side note, that radiator hose that's on the right side of the radiator when looking at the engine from the front is smoldering hot....but it's starting to accept coolant now slowly

I had mine on ramps and that was barely enough. I would say something much more than slight. Gravity and the cooling system design are working against you. sounds to me like you are risking overheating your engine.

All right, thanks bro, I'm pretty sure it's working now, I drove the car around for a while, the heat is blowing hot air and the temperature needle stays at high noon as always.

Just one more question and I'm done with this project! The radiator, from the top, has a hose on the right and a hose on the left. I've never actually touched these pipes, but are they both supposed to be hot?

The hose on the right is like really hot to the touch, and the hose on the left is really hot as well, just not as hot as the one on the right...I mean, is that suppose to be normal with the FDK since there's no fan blowing continuously across the radiator and all?

Did you open the bleed screw on the reservoir?

Yes that's normal on any car. Not having a fan blowing continuously across the radiator is a serious problem though. Don't you have an electric fan running?

Top hose (right side) is feeding hot coolant to the radiator, lower hose (left side) is supplying cooled coolant to the engine. They better be 2 different temps. LOL

Been driving the car around for a few days and well...it's great! No problems, and Yes, it's bled correctly now, the only problem was originally the thermostat would NOT open, but after 1 case of the temp needle rolling past noon and scaring the shit out of me, the thermostat finally opened and the coolant was drained through the reservoir and I was able to bleed it properly.

The fan isn't blowing across the radiator continually but the aux fan switch is definitely working, it's kicking in the aux fan alot earlier than normal, I will definitely think about mounting the spal 16" electric in the future, but I had heard so much about the FDK, and while it gave me like NO power...atleast I don't have to live with the fear of the shattering fan.

But thanks for all the help guys, I'm learned that....I will never be a mechanic ever...It was not fun :-/
