View Full Version : Spoiler, yes or no?

hey guys, I'm getting tired of my M spoiler and I'm open to suggestions.
I'm leaning more toward the lip or no spoiler look right now, opinions?
I think that from most angles the spoiler makes the car look tall and chunky,
and maybe lacking a spoiler or just having a lip would make it look wide and low...
please ignore the rims and emblems.....
emblems are gone and rims are soon to follow

I personally thing most spoilers look lame except for the duck tail ones, if I could find one for my car I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
I'm surprised your Third Brake light is on your spoiler =\ Mines just like built into the trunk..

Well i was really never a fan for the stock m3 spoiler. I have a LTW spoiler and love it. I think no lip spoiler would look better though.

That is becuase you have a converible and don't have a rear window for the 3rd brake light.

tlamm, do you use any risers...the LTW spoiler is my personal favorite but I like them all to various degrees. I think my M3 spoiler was put on by the dealer in 95. Anyone know the difference between the "rainbow" spoiler and the regular M3 spoiler...both BMW?

...When I read the thread title, I was going to say 'Yes, m3 style-' ...Now that I see your bored with that, I'd suggest going with no spoiler. The lip was made for more or less the E46+ IMO. I've seen this car w/ a lip spoiler and it doesn't look pretty... I have no spoiler and near setup of yours, smoked tail lens, diffuser, black.. Perhaps I can take a picture of my rear-end [all homo] and you let me know if you like it?

I do not have risers. I thought with the risers would be to tall.

I think the trunk of the e36 looks really butch without the spoiler. It's just right, it has a nice and clean line. On an e46 I'd put a lip, because the trunk lid has that soft swoop to it, but on e36s it's a waste IMO.

When I starting reading your post I thought you might have had one of the really tall spoilers. The one you have on the car does not look bad at all. It might have blended in a bit better if it did not have the brake light in it - is the one in the window visible enough??

I quite like this look. Blends in very nicely. Do you have any other pictures from different angles???

I like the m3 spoiler
you could also go for the trunk lip from a e39

i think you're right.... the way e36 trunks sweep back is sexy enough not to need a spoiler.
regarding a lip spoiler, I've searched around a bit on ebay and various sites and nothing is very appealing.

haha, thank you :lol btw, that acs duck tail is making me drool.... too bad they're $300 or some bs

one more thing before i get offline, if I take the spoiler off, what do I do about the weird "pad" things underneath where the spoiler mounts to the trunk?

I have an original M3 spoiler for my M3, but I never installed it.
It is a 4-door M3 and I assume it looks better without the spoiler, all what I have modified you can see here in the engine room

I've got the same spoiler as you and I prefer it to no spoiler. When I had it off to fix a rust hole I didn't like the look.
one more thing before i get offline, if I take the spoiler off, what do I do about the weird "pad" things underneath where the spoiler mounts to the trunk?
When I took mine off it was bolted and taped on, so there are 5 holes, 4 mounting and 1 for the brake light wire.
shogun

these holes/tapes and mountings are also one of the reasons why I hesitate to attach the spoiler.

^^soooooooooooo, bondo and paint are in my future?
jmo69
08-26-2010, 10:44 PM
^^^ Sure sounds that way, might be better to have the holes welded shut, bondo is only temporary.
shogun
08-26-2010, 10:55 PM
might be cheaper to get a used trunk lid in same colour instead of welding and paint works on the old one with the holes.

years ago i used to install wings on customer cars periodically, some times it looked good. other times, either because the way they looked, or the way $h!+ had to be altered on the vehicle to make installation possible... all i could do was shake my head. i liked the stock wing on my old b14 SER.

shoot i gots a black trunk with no spoiler i'll trade you. I also have the same front lip.. nice.... I personally like the lip spoiler the best but a duckbill will give me a boner if done right.

under the hood theres a little tube next to the washer fluid tank thant can help you with that:eyebrows. but only for the first few minutes after you start the car, so you gotta be fast:shifty

I agree with this. Put a WTT ad out on craigslist or similar for a black e36 trunk w/ no spoiler. I am 100% sure you will get some interest.
