I have an engine setup I'm trying to sell, and have a couple of interested buyers, but I've never shipped an engine before. Does anybody here have any suggestions as to how much i shoud expect it to cost (both the shipping, and purchase of necessary shipping supplies - pallet, straps, etc.), and where I should look for appropriate shipping companies? Aways worry about damaging an engine block in shipping.
Thanks!!
Pallets can be free if you know where to get them. Some blocks of wood, a box of wood screws, electric drill, a 4-pack of ratchet straps for $15 and some industrial plastic wrap are what I've used in the past. Shipping can be anywhere from $100 in state to $300 cross country. I think the supplies to ship an engine safely wouldn't be over $50.
I've thought about making cradles for the M50 like are available for the small block Chevy's and Ford's but besides my own shop, I don't know how much of a market there would be for them.

Ken, Use Southeastern Freight.. Get a nice pallet and build a "jig" to hold the motor stable and ship it... It's always alot cheaper if you deliver the motor to the shipping depot..

Check out next to garbage locations of big shopping centers.. there's often pallets just laying there.

Cool, thanks guys. How do you keep it protected from say, cylinder wals getting debrid in them, deck surface being scraped, etc.?? This is a freshly bored, ready to go block.
