As a follow up on this thread:

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1163744&highlight=ZF+germany

I went back to ZF for the follow up service.

In May 08 I went to ZF to have the valve body serviced and they gave me the advise as the new oil will have a cleaning effect on the tranny so the best thing to was change the oil and filter after 30-35k

Now 2 years and 3 months later I was there again to have her serviced.

See the video on the oil and filter and HOW the manufacture fills the tranny.

Good post. Must be nice having that place so close. Much more reassuring having professionals do it.

Is there such a thing in the US?

Its not ZF...but about the closest to something of the same scope of knowledge & experience that I can think of (which doesn't mean it's the ONLY place in the USA) is...Autosport Unlimited in Holland MI. It is the place that the "tranny guru" Kirt Koeller works. If you've never heard his name mentioned or referred to...just go to google and type "Kirt Koeller BMW"...and you'll see lots of results show up. ;)

I remember a few years ago...some e32 forum members setting up appointments to get tranny work or tranny oil changes done in Holland MI and doing something similar to what Edwin showed in his video.

Note to Edwin: my friend, you've posted some great videos over the years...but I have to say that this is one of my favorites so far. I don't have the time to pick out each and everything...so I'll just some it up with...AWESOME! :D

Great video...I've done mine 15K miles ago...I'll do the change at 20K miles..soon..
Doing 200 kph in this rain is brave...mind you I've done 240 in my old 911 in Germany..year 2000...Are you going to do the same in 30K miles again..?

I am sooo jealous. If only I had access to a lift...
I guess I will stick to valvoline and a set of jack stand.
I can assure you last time I did it with the LT71441 and the jackstand, it was not fun. Oil spilled everywhere and even got to taste some. YUCK...
The right equipment made it look effortless.

Thanks for posting this video. It is great :-)
Does anyone know why the oil turns black so quickly? Clutch material?

In my case is was a mixture of clutch plate material and the cleaning of the oil that wnt through the GB the last 30k.

Good stuff.

And I don't even want to think how filthy my oil is - 150K miles and counting...

Perhaps our Edwin is an.....anchor baby? :devillook :D :devillook

I'll let him tell the story of his birth and citizenry. But I do believe at one point in his early youth...he lived in Michigan. I live less than 1 hour away from the Michigan border and his accent doesn't sound like any I've heard from other Michiganders. But again, I've never met him personally like some of you all have. So take my comments for what they're worth. :D

Look up "Dose" in San Diego. They are an official ZF tranny shop.

First off all thanks to Edwin for posting about ZF in Dortmund!!! :buttrock

Now after picking up my beloved e38 in Bremerhaven I drove down to visit my family near Drotmund and paid ZF a visit today.

Everything went well, fo course, cause these guys know what they are doing (ZF seems to built most transmissions from BMW to Ferrari to VW...)

Only "issue" they found a little metal in the pan (see pic below) I was told I might get some tranny issues (maybe in a week, maybe in a month, maybe never) so I'll hope for the best and we'll see what happens. They recommend to get the tranny serviced every 70 kilometers... My total cost inc. oil change for the dif. was EUR 418,26.
