Paying cash will definately give you more room to negotiate.

In most cases, brand new car goes by the sticker price.
Used one should go over $ 40, 000

BMW Canada has a $2000 rebate for paying cash instead of financing/leasing a 2011. That should be on top of any negotiated price with your dealership and any other rebates (like the free AT going on now). Check with BMW FS in the US to see if they have a similar thing. Not sure if 2010 cars get different treatment (better or worse).
P.S. Never ever pay sticker for a new car, there is a phrase that dealer salespeople use when selling to someone at sticker price, they call it "Sticking it to them", and that is according to a dealer car salesman.

You can't negotiate with the Germans for a brand new car
You have to pay the stickers price especially if it is custom made.
On the positive side I paid $ 6000 dollars less compared to American prices.

1st of all you are not negotiating with Germans unless you are buying your car in Germany.
2nd of all, you can always negotiate anything you want, success or failure depends on your negotiation skills, those of the person(s) you are negotiating with, and market conditions (e.g. supply and demand).
That being said, I will gladly say that this is my 3rd brand new and custom ordered BMW and I never paid sticker (both here and in the US).
If you want to pay sticker, go ahead, it makes it easier for the rest of us to negotiate a better deal.

Are we talking brand new, or slightly used?
Assuming new, go to Edmunds, price it out with the options you want, start with the total Invoice price, subtract any factory rebates or "dealer cash" and offer the dealer that number. The 2011's are in the showroom and they want to move the 2010's.

++ I ordered a 2010 335d *MY* way and paid Costco pricing - $1800 over invoice (about 1500 less than sticker.)
Got the same deal 10 years ago on my 330xi - one of the only ones in the US without a sunroof.

I believe you're a few weeks too late for 2010.
