will a 1990 535i transmission work on a 1993?

my 535i needs a tranny swap. i found a zf 4hp22 transmission for sale off of a 1990 model 535i. i need to know if it will be a direct bolt on, and if it will work with my car before i buy.

also, you may not know, but is there supposed to be a heat shield between the exhaust and transmission? a heat shield ended up in my driveway, and i noticed that there is not one between the exhaust and trans. the pipe is only about 2 inches away from the tranny, and a foot and a half from the header, so it gets pretty hot. i've since thrown away the one in my driveway, but i can make another one out of sheet metal.

Don't sweat it. The amount of heat radiated from the exhaust to the tranny is hot to your body, but minimal to the machinery.
