Hi Guys

So yesterday i couldn't get the tie rod nut off. A impact wrench did the trick. Now I can't seem to unscrew the tie rod off. I soaked it with liquid wrench for about 1/2 hour. Then I put a vice grip on the center link to keep it from spinning and am trying to use pliers to twist the tie rod but can't get it budge. :mad

Is there a trick to this? Does anyone have any tips for me??

I'm having a hell of a time getting this tie rod off the car, and this is supposed to be a easy diy!

I think it's all the salt and cold winters we have here in chicago? Every single suspension bolt on my car seems to be frozen shut. :(

Try and use a pipe wrench. I have success with that in the past. Also, ensure you are turning it the right way, one should be left handed threads IIRC.

I'm on the passenger side and turning it counter clock wise..mmm... pipe wrench....I was using the pliers the car came with and a big ol vice grip. Maybe the pipe wrench and vice grip will do the trick?

clamp on to the solid part of the tie rod end, not the area where the threads are. If that makes sense.

I've had to use a torch sometimes..They can be stubborn!

hey guys, thanks for the input. Tomorrow I'm gonna go to home depot and get that pipe wrench and a propane torch. First i'll try the pipe wrench, if that's not working I'll heat it with the propane torch..

You might want to try to tap (Re:Hammer on) the joint to break the rust/threads loose. Don't go crazy and break something, but a good shock can help. A air hammer or chisel is a great tool.

The key is a metal on metal sharp smack. I have dazzled some people with how effective this can be if done right. FWIW, it also works on screws in carburetors. Tap the end of the screwdriver while it is in the screw.. Makes you look like a magician.

Maybe another pipe wrench instead of vise grips? I know we have some pretty cheap at HD, not the best quality for the inexpensive ones, but you probably won't be using them every day, or consider renting for a day wouldn't be a bad idea

WD-40 over night! I had that same issue, would NOT come off and used some WD-40 Spray and than sprayed some more the next day to clear the rust, dirt, and anything else also making it slip.. Waalhaa it came right off, so try the WD

Replace everything. Then you dont need to worry about getting stuff apart.
