Hi, I'm interested in getting an e36 m3, i was wondering if it would be possible to swap in an engine from an e46 m3 without too much trouble or hardly any at all.

i like the newer m3 engine for the 8000 redline.. i would like to do forced induction but i'm not certian on that yet. i was wondering if it would simply be eaiser to just work on the e36 engine rather than try to get the newer one.

thanks.

forget about it. You would be better just getting a Euro motor and swapping it in. Do a search there is plenty of info :)

It won't work, and if it will, you'll be spending a fortune. Not worth it in the end...you'd be better off getting a Euro and blowing that:)

I was about to buy an S54 block/head(no wiring harness etc.) just the block and head for 4,7K. My cousin is a dealer and he could've bought this for me about a year ago...but I didn't want the trouble. First, it would take SO much time to make everything run correctly, electrically and mechanically. I believe Dinan tried this once with no avail. If they can't do it after spending so much money, I doubt it's doable.

Either way, good luck...

You can easily rev a euro 3.2L S50 B32 to 8000 RPM...no hydraulic lifters to worry about.

Yeah, just swap in the Euro S50B32. Dual VANOS, 321BHP, sweet, sweet engine. You may need to transplant the EWS into a 1995 or earlier E36 (antenna loop around the ignition lock and other electronics) because the Gruppe-N engine computer (no EWS lockout circuitry) is NLA.

Yep, euro motor is the way to go. How much money do you have to spend? I hope you don't think redline == power

or just go F1. AA has a 450 turbo and the twin screw is 350 whp - both would blow the socks off of an e46 M3
