sounds like you must of left a connector off after doing the work. double check what you did and triple check all connections. I know of no reason a car wont start after replacing a water pump. Sorry i'm not anymore help.

Possible to damage the crank angle sensor? worth measuring its impedance at the plug just to be sure, it will certainly stop the car from starting. My experience has been disturbing old parts often results in them failing shortly after! :)

thanks for the help guys a friend says that it could be the compression in the chambers because i have spark and fuel but it wont start so i need a compression gauge and hes gonna check that tomorrow then i might need a new engine

if your car started before this pump change, then you should still have compression.
check your crank sensor and make sure it's properly connected.
im not sure you can, but scan it and see if your getting anything from the sensor when you're cranking it.

lol yes changing water pumps often lead to needing new engines due to loss of compression :rolleyes

seriously check your cps

so i would have to change the whole engine right if i dont have enough compression there is no way to fix it right? and i was wondering if i could swap it with a V6 from a 525?

just do what they said and test the sensors and check them and no you cannot swap the inline 6 from a 525 to save yourself the trouble.

This sounds eerily familiar...'94 540i won't start...instead of simply diagnosing the owner is ready to scrap the car and jump to the worst possible conclusion...hmmmm

Is the OP involved in any collegiate sports? God I hope so.

well ive had the car looked at by a friend that has worked on BMW his whole life his father taught him and he worked at the BMW dealer in la but the only thing he says it could be is the copression in the chambers and if thatys what it is the engine is gone in which case i am going to have to find an engine or if there is anything possible to make that engine work i will try it. i have to get that compression gauge and check the chambers and then evrything goes from there but yeah idk what else to do the sensors all work i checked themand idk what else

Find both a new friend and a new mechanic.

You may very well have low compression in a few cylinders, but if the car was running before you changed the pump it should be running now, and low compression isn't the issue.

yeah i know but its the only thing i can think of as well i mean evrything works i even got a brand new battery for it as well but it just wont start!

Makes perfect sense to me. If you released all the compression in the piston chambers by accident, you need to re-pressurize them. It's hard to do through the spark plug holes; you can't slap the plug back into place quick enough after blowing.

Most guys do a reverse-pressure fill. Pressurized air is forced back into the system via rear tailpipe. Before attempting this though, you need to check for airway constriction. Usually this just means blowing into your tailpipe to make sure there is flow. Some guys will make a sound to check the condition of the resonator. If you want try that and let us know how it goes. Film and post so we can provide feedback on the quality of sound.

yes give your tail pipe some head that will make the car feel good about itself and start.

but seriously I give up on this. yeah sure your engines shot the cars done for.

sell it to me for dirt cheap, yes I'm actually serious about this one.

How do you know that it's getting fuel and spark?

I'd just re-check all the connections if it ran before the water pump. Also, i guess make sure grease and gunk is cleaned off the CPS, that was the cause and solution to my recent no start BS.

BTW why did you put a new water pump in?

the spark plugs smell like fuel and the spark plugs all give spark how much is the cheapest you will buy this car for i paid 1500 ill take at least 1000. i changed the water pump because it was leaking and the car over heated as soon as i got home from buying it

hey now jumpin on my shiz :P

I'll trade you my 535 and need some cash ^_^ it runs and drives good just has a few small issues and could use painted.

Bavarian auto recyclers sells rebuilt, used and new engines for your car with warranties. Check them out. I was going to purchase an M60 with a two year warranty for $650.00, but went another direction. Good luck
