:helpI recently aquired some new OEM sport wheels from a 2002 E65 745i, Type 95's. I put them on my wifes 2001 E39 525i Touring, her car came with the Cross Spoke Composite 5's, the sport package BBS rims with 235/45-17.. I know about the hubs, and had them bored out accordingly. The guy used a cnc type machine to hone out the hubs. I had new tires put on, obviously ones that fit without rubbing 275/35-19 rear and 245/35-19 front.
Below 40 mph the car is fine, anything above, and the car shakes something aweful!!!
I'm wondering a few things:
1. Did the hubs get screwed up when they were bored?
2. Are the tires just out of balance?
3. Do I need a road force balance?
4. Are the wheels offsets off?
5. Wheel alignment?
6. Lugnuts?
I plan on taking the car back to have the tires rebalanced. They do not do road force balance there. If this doesn't work, then I plan to take the car somewhere I can get a road force balance.
Please Advise, I really like how they look on the car and don't want to get rid of them, they absolutly :buttrock. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance!!!

If the hubs were bored nonconcentric, then you would feel the out-of-round even at low speed. My guess is it is just a balance problem. Imbalance force increases with the square of the speed, so you won't notice an unbalanced wheel at all at low speed. At some speed you start to notice it and it gets increasingly worse with increasing speed.

This is exactly what happened when I tried to run e39 wheels on my car without hubcentric adapter rings. I would guess they got screwed up by the shop that did them.

I appreciate the help guys. I think the guy that did the hubs, did a real good job. This was his business, fixing bent rims and honing. He seemed like he knew what he was talking about. Plus he was an engineer of some sort. I'm glad that that you think its just an improper balance, that puts my mind at ease. I plan to have them rebalanced ASAP. Thanks all.:)

i think it is the hub size. are you sure that he machined them out to 74.1?? because the E39 is that size. anything larger than that will cause steering wheel shake at certain speeds.
i doubt it's the balancing.......

Yea sure did, the fit on the hubs is perfect. I tried to move the wheels in any direction I could to test fit them and the were spot on. I did take them to get rebalanced and its much better thsn it was to begin with, I am going to try and get a road force balance this weekend, if that doesn't work, then I guess its new rims! I think the guy that did the hubs did a good job, but there is always that slim chance that something went wrong. I just hope that the hubs are on center and that isn't the issue. :banghead:

Hey bmywm3, did you ever find a solution to your vibration problem? I am having a similar issue with my style 95's, albiet the wheel bore isn't exactly 74.1mm. I could really use your help on this situation so thanks for any info.
