View Full Version : Shrinking upholstery?

So last summer I started to notice that the passenger side door upholstery looked like it was tearing from the separation between the soft stuff and the harder, dash like material along the top of the door where the lock is.

Over several months, the entire panel of what Im guessing is synthetic started to peel away from the door, and now its happening in the back. Then I noticed that it didnt seem to be tearing as much as it was pulling itself out of where it was tucked in at the seams, as if the entire material was shrinking.

Has anyone else experienced this? I believe this car started its road days in KS, and then spent a good amount of time in Houston before I picked it up without this issue. Now Ive been in Oregon for about a year and a half, and its all falling apart. Is this climate, age, or just my bad luck?

Very common problem. Do a search around here and you'll find lots of different "solutions".

My suggestion, find a set of door panels from a '95 model, or from a car with the separate door handles. They seem to hold up better.

It's climate (Houston) and age. And poor design. They all do it eventually. But a local PNW car should provide better panels.

I have one driver's door panel in black available for sale, $50. Excellent condition.

What color interior?
I have a nice set (4) of light gray '95 door panels I'm going to be listing.

I also have both passenger door panles in black from a '95.

And a decent set (4) of regular door panles in black.

Mine are light grey. I assume no fitting difference between 91-95 models.

What would you be asking for them?

Porsche do your light grey panels have the woodgrain?
