View Full Version : New guy, HID bulb question....

Well, just picked up an E90 330i with the sports package, love it so far but have a few questions.

I come from a big VW background so i do have some knowledge on German cars.

The previous owner of the 330i had one of the HID bulbs replaced after it went out, well the bulb lights up like it should then turns from the violet color to white...leading me to believe its the wrong bulb. I need to pull the bulb out to take a look and see what kind it is but haven't had time to do it.

Now leads to my actual question.....
So i call the dealership to buy a bulb (now i have had OEM HIDs straight from europe on my MKIV Golf, about $200 a pair for OEM bulbs) come to find out that the bulbs are $236 for 1! Thats insane and i'm sure there are OEM replacements somewhere else.

I searched and found where you guys talked about replacement bulbs, but i don't want $20 bulbs, i want quality bulbs that light up and color just like OEM. I really don't want to take the plunge on a $236 bulb. Thanks for any help for a new guy .:help

Are both of them lighting up white? Or is there only one of them that is lighting up white?

Thanks for the website, i'll take a look.

Only one of them is lighting up white, i believe its the one he had replaced being that the other lights up just slight violet like it should.

But, anynody knows how to replace these? It look complicated on the E90 330i, since it has the dynamic headlights.

That link is for the coupe and not the sedan + it is not dynamic.

Try going here and downloading the users manual. Look for the bulb replacement section.

You prefer the violet color?

Basically i prefer the stock color look and yes thats violet.

Right now its very awkward looking being that one is white and the other violet...

i appreciate the help guys along with the DIY's for the headlights, i'll need that down the road at some point, thanks.

Problem solved!! found a guy online that had 3 OEM BMW HID bulbs, picked two of them up cheap. should have them in by Friday.
