e90 stalls....ticking noise....what is wrong?

My e90 stalled while stopped at a light (it's an auto)

Some unusual stuff with the car lately:

sporadically makes a ticking noise after startup (usually goes away when the car is fully warm)

and

there is a dead spot when accelerating (i.e. - the car's acceleration is delayed as you press the gas pedal when starting from a stop).

Ticking noise are the exhaust lifters. They do not do the hesitation.
Most of the E90s have this lifters issue.
Do you have any service light on?
