who here has experience with curb rash on a rim? this happened to me the other day and i am trying to figure out if i should try and contact a wheel repair place or order a new wheel? can the wheel repair places make it look almost new again. i have some deep scratches but not super bad. if i am to order a new wheel anyone know of decent sites? tried craigslist but no luck.

If it's really deep then it needs welding to fill in the gouge and machined. If it's like superficial rash then big time polishing should be sufficient.

bavauto sells a wheel repair kit for curb rash. one of their newsletters has more info and photos of a before and after. haven't tried it myself yet, but am planning on it soon. I'm going to skip the files as it seems like they would be difficult to use unless you take the wheels off. I've used a dremel tool in the past to grind down curb rash.

I agree that it depends on how bad the rash is. If its just scraped powder coating then the refinisher can do a pretty good blend. Just need to be sure to get the matching coating. They usually clean it up good and give it like 8-10+ coats to build up the rashed surfaces flush. If you got polished wheels, it will be harder to bring back without losing more metal I think. But still very doable by a good refinisher.

I say you get them refinished.
