I posted this on the E36 M3 thread, but thought I should post this in the general E36 section too:

I'm about to tackle the blower motor replacement as my A/C died last week. It's hot in Arizona, so I have to get to this ASAP. I'm just curious to see who else has followed this DIY:

Suggestions are welcome.

Also: I've changed the Final Stage Resistor, and my climate control display works. My blower started making a loud buzzing noise last week before it abruptly quit on me 3 days later...

Changed it twice, the major pita is to get it in. You can pry the sheet metal to make up for the few mm you might need. Otherwise it's pretty easy.

I'd be curious to know how this turns out. Mine's been sounding like a cricket for a while now, but still works.

I replaced my blower about a month ago. It was still functioning but sometimes noisy. Not a fun job, but that DIY was very helpful.

I completed my a/c blower motor swap yesterday. It's actually not so bad. There are three steps that caused me some grief, but I figured each one out in about 10-15 mins a piece.

Overall it took me 5 hours to install. I took my time and stored my screws into zip lock bags (4 throughout the process). Anyway, the areas that caused some problems were taking out the windshield wiper assembly, taking off the wiper motor metal brace and taking out/ installing the wiper motor. It was so bad though...

I ordered my new motor from AutohausAZ. Cost me $283 with free shipping. I paid tax though as I'm in Phoenix. The new motor had removable cages. I left one installed, maneuvered the motor and one cage into place, then installed the second cage.

I'd leave a full day to complete the job. That'd leave one plenty of time to sit back, have a drink, and think about the problem if he finds himself stuck.

Also. Change out your cabin filter if your blower's not working... It's a piece of cake. It was a lot easier than I expected, actually. Anyway. If your blower isn't working, you can take out the air filter, and nudge the squirrel cages (with the blower set on high), and your ac might start blowing. This worked for me, but I was afraid the thing would just stall on me again, so I opted to fix it for good...
