Im just playing with the idea of buying a 318is with blown motor. How easy is it to put the e36 m3 motor in and were can you find good used motors. Thanks for any help.

they drop in directly. You'll need the transmission too. It's not all that difficult and there's a few writeups about doing this specific swap here on the forums

I hope you understand that a $700 car usually needs a lot of work. I know you said it had a blown motor but.... I bought a $700 e36. $2500 later Im not finished fixing it. An M3 engine and tranny is probably going to run you $3000 if you can find one close to you.
Just be prepared. 18 years of wear and tear start to put hole in your budget real fast.
Oh...welcome to the forum...:)

Really wish i could have found 1 with black interior but it shouldnt be to hard to change. One of my friends dad owns a junkyard with a few e36's so I can get parts from them I hate tan but couldnt pass up $700. Didn't need a M3 or 328 cause I wanted to build the motor or swap in a Ls1.

Oh...welcome to the forum...:) Thanks! I'm fully aware of the task at hand. I'm sure the suspension will need a complete over haul, bigger brakes etc...... I'm not worried about anything motor wise cause its all coming out, Seller told me there was no rust but we'll see. If I wanted I could have got a nicer e36 but this 1 suits the bill just fine. I'm really wanting to do a ls1 swap but that would put paint on the back burner.

Well it sounds like you are the right person for this car. It sounds like you bought it as a restoration/build project. I didn't really buy mine expecting to put so much time/money into it but everytime I turn the key I'm glad I did.
Good luck and keep us up to date with pics.
I believe that your car is Calypsorot red. My favorite color.

Thanks. I've been wanting to build a car for some years now but never did and once I joined the army never really had time but once I get back I will make time. LOL i bought a motorccle on leave and just wasnt satisfied becasue I never built a car to my liking so i'm selling it to help fund this project.

the junkyard you were talking about will be a very handy resource for your project.

LOL yeah all that interior is coming out searching as we speak for black interior.
Come to think about it my friend buys cars from the auction all the time. I may just get a wrecked m3 and swap over all the parts.
