I am new to the forum and have always enjoyed just looking at the q/a section but now I have my own problem so here goes. 98 z3 1.9 was not driven for a couple of months and now will not start, the fuel pump was not working so i was going to remove it but when i checked voltage at pump nothing,so i changed relay, nothing but with my handy wiring diagram i found that the crank position sensor controls relay through ecm and with the ecm disconnected i can send voltage through the proper pin and the relay works. i guess my question is how to check if i have a bad crank sensor or ecm? thanks

Need to have the codes read either with an OBDII code reader or a Peake tool.

You'll get more responses posting in the Z3 section:

BMW has their own specific codes that the Peak tool can read. The crank sensor has its own code if it fails.
