I have a 2010 BMW 328i and to my surprise it came without an engine temperature gauge. Does anyone know about aftermarket gauges? The dealer does not have any answer.
My main concern will be in winter to know when the engine is warm enough to drive hard.

Are you serious? Can you post a picture? How is that even possible and did you not catch that before you bought the car?:confused:confused:confused

No temp gauge on the E90, do not know about the others.

there is an eSensor kind of device and OBC will tell you when the car is overheating. as far as when the car is at normal operating temps so that you can drive hard, look for oil level to display - when you start driving it is not showing the level but after a while (6 miles or 15-20 min of driving) you'll see see the level and may start driving sportier

This. The oil level sensor will not show a reading until the engine is at operating temp.

Did not notice before buying the car. They put the instant mpg meter where the temperature gauge used to be. I am still hopeful that somebody will offer an aftermarket gauge that does not afect the warranty

My 2007 E90 328xi came without a temperature gauge (had the instant MPG gauge). I think the temperature gauge comes as a package option. My current ride has an oil temp gauge.

Same with my 2007 328i, just the completely worthless MPG gauge.

Ditto. Nice to have a temp gauge now.

You guys *do* know that BMW's temperature guages have been mostly useless for quite a while; at least since the E46?

Since BMW went to computer-controlled thermostats (in the name of efficiency), the temperature guages have been completely modulated by the computer. It has three positions: 1) left=cold, 2) middle=normal, 3) right=hot. Since the electronically-controlled thermostat could modulate from around 180 - 200 degrees F for best efficiency (hot when running steady on the highway), it would have scared most people to see it fluctuate so much.

If you can see when the engine is warming up, when it has reached normal range, and if it's too hot, that's all I need to know. Much better than no display at all.

I don't think you are correct. My temperature gauge slowly creeps up during the first 10 minutes of driving. And since I installed the Dinan runs about 5 degrees hotter than before. So I would say it is pretty accurate as far as I can tell. Also my temp gauge does fluctuate about 5-10 degrees depending on how I am driving.

You're talking about *OIL* temprature guage. The OP (and me) are talking about the missing *WATER* temperature guage.

I think the OP misses having any temperature gauge.

Yeah, it doesn't have any gauge for temp... I am still used to seeing the gauge for a peace of mind.

Really??? A 328 with oil temp? Didn't know there was such an animal from the factory.

OP - if you are really worried you can get the Performance Electronic V2 Steering wheel (http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=MorePartInfo&PartID=1013517&siteid=214672&catalogid=4462&tab=30905). :)
