My daughter called late last night because she was locked out of her 2001 X5.

The manual key would turn in the driver's door lock but nothing would happen - battery was OK.

Roadside assistance arrived and was able to get the driver's door open after pressing on the lock button in the center console and re-trying the driver's door from the inside (with a special tool) while outside the X5 and pulling on the outside driver door handle.

She has had the X5 for about 2 years and never had this problem before.

I checked the Central Locking System fuses - all OK.

Pressing on the lock/unlock button on the center console does nothing.

Rear doors, rear hatch, and gas flap cannot be opened.

Is there a common set of causes for this problem?

Any suggestions on how to diagnose will be appreciated.

Thanks,
- Bob

It needs to see the dealer, or a QUALIFIED repair facility.

Few different things could be happening that would need to be properly diagnosed.

You should be able to open the fuel filler door using a latch located inside the rear compartment on the same side as the filler door. It is usually a cable with a green or black handle on it with a symbol of a fuel pump on it.

There may also be an emergency unlock procedure for that vehicle. Check the owners manual for that info....

I have an 08 335xi with the same problem right now. The drivers door can be opened with the mechanical key but nothing else will open. Looking for a solution.
My serpentine belt makes a squeekie noise. It's the second time. Had the belt replaced at 30,000. Only have 59,000 on the car. anybody out there with the same problem.
