I have both a '91 e30 4-door and a '99 e36 vert. I've had the e30 for about a year and a half and recently acquired the e36 vert. I've spent thousands on the e30, yet it still needs a radiator, A/C conversion, sunroof repair. Bought the vert real cheap, $3k. The vert runs fine except it needs new control arms and new struts all around and both front seats repaired or replaced, and the top straps adjusted, and dent removal.
I've only got about $2k to spend.
Question is which should I commit to:
A: Fix the e30
B: Fix the vert.
C: Half ass both
D: Sell one to fix the other
E: Sell both and get an e36 M3

Not when you have to sell one car to be able to afford to fix another. Sounds to me that he can not afford an M3 just yet.
I would sell the E30 and the E36 and buy a decent E34. But that's just me. ;-)

How much are both cars + the $2000 cash worth right now?

X2! Although I have just aquired mine as well I know that doing anything half a$$ed on this car would make me look like the biggest loser driving down the road and be a total travesty. Half a$$ing a Chevy Cavlier...not so bad, half a$$ing a Bimmer...well let's just say there is a special corner of hell for those trolls.

Approx $7000.
Point of clarification. Having $2000 is what I have slated to spend and is not indicative of what I can afford. I have spent near $5000 on the e30 in the last year. If I purchase an M3, considering the maintenance cost, I can definitely afford the car and the maintenance. That being said, I do not throw money away, such as letting the dealer do the work at book hours. I deal with reputable independent shops with master techs that only charge for actual hours worked on my vehicle.

I guess I mis-used half ass. What I meant is that I should allot a portion to each and fix what is most important for each vehicle.

Out of all fo the options listed I would sell both and pick up an M3. or if thats not likely I would sell the E30 and fix the E36.

Both up for sale on Craigslist. Now, to start shopping for that M3. I'll be shopping for an e36 M3. I know that 1995 M3 had OBD1 but I think the newer the better, so, I'll shoot for a MY 98 or 99.

181k on the e30 but the odometer is broken, so about 191k.
183k on the 99 vert.

If you are going to be going the FI route OBD1 is where you want to be.
