Get some reinforcement strut plates for your e36, or you'll end up like me :(

Guess this is common from what i've been researching. Happened on my driver's side rear.

ouch, reinforcement plates are a must! There are a few threads showing how people repaired them. The best way is to just buy a new shock tower and have it welded in. Part 16/17 is what you are looking for.

Thanks for the help Steve, I really appreciate it!

Yah, i've read a couple of threads where this became a problem for some. Should have prevented it from the get go. Well, I guess you live and learn. Thanks again though!!

*Edit* BTW, you're car looks killer

Positively shocking, no pun, and nothing new to these cars.

Thank god there is more to this site than just wheels and tires, as the same thing just happened to my buddys' car.......good info on the repairs, and I will be getting reinforcement plates so this does not happen to me. Good luck Marq, and let us know how it turns out.......

What suspension are u on too?

Many times it has to do with the suspension set ups ppl run on their cars too. Ppl want their cars low and stiff, yet neglect common failure areas.....until they fail

You should be able to find someone to repair it, not bad at all

I thought this was common knowledge.

Make sure to remove the old and install the new shock tower mount. There is 16 spot welds and you will need someone who can spot weld. Get yourself some wire brushes for the drill and a grinder.

Ouch!,that looks rough.I've got an E34 with 18x9's in rear with 275/35/18 tires.
Does anyone out there know if the E34 also suffers from this problem and where
to get the reinforcement strut plates for it?

Could not see the pics of the damage, but I do have a question about the shock absorber support. Is it underneath the wheel well or on top in the trunk area. I have pulled back the trunk lining several times and did not see any tears or damage but I do have this rattling noise coming from my left rear area. It concerns me enough to want to find out.

The shock tower is in the trunk underneath the carpet and foam. You have to remove the speakers and amp if you have one. Just peel it back and you should see the shock towers. You probably have a failing rear shock mount and should check it out before its too late!

Makes me glad I ordered rsm's, front subframe, front+rear sway bars, and rtab reinforcement plates and I'm just going to be on an h&r spring/koni shock set up.

Back from the dead.

This happened to me around the same time. I had a rear strut bar for tower reinforcement purposes and it still ripped through.

Bought part from dealer and had a body shop near my house do the work for $190. Took them one day and came out looking like OEM.

Try ordering the reinforcement plates from Turner Motorsport.
