Hello,
I have 58,000 on my BMW 335i Coupe. I've had the notorious Fuel Pump Issues a couple different times and replaced under warranty, the car has been driving fine since.. The past month, my Low Coolant Level warning sign flashed a couple times upon start, but then would go away, and not appear when I start the car later. My low washer fluid sign has also been on for the past 2-3 months but I have ignored it.
2 weeks later, the low coolant level sign came on again, yet this time continued to stay on, along with my "service" light, and the low washer fluid level still stands. I checked the Service History thru my iDrive system, I am due for a Brake Fluid Flush & Basic Oil Change, along with I guess a low coolant level top off.
I spoke to Dinan regarding the low coolant, and they advised its a Sealed System so the Coolant should not leak. I was not able to schedule an apt with them until 2 weeks later, and drove my spare car in the mean time.
As I backed out this morning to head over there, I noticed a good size leak underneath the Rear Engine of the vehicle which was black & oil based. This does not look like Coolant.. Does anyone have any idea if these symptoms relate to a common problem with the e92's? I did some research and found it may be:
-Wastegate / Waste Gate actuator problem (but why is the coolant low? and what causes the leak)
-Water Pump?
-Coolant system leak (but why is the leak at the rear, and it's not coolant thats leaking)
-There is a resistor planted next to the coolant system that gets 250-350 degrees (supports my angel eyes) -- could this be culprit?
Is it safe to drive? I am willing to TOW if it is not safe. I can't get in touch with a service advisor and the receptionist keep suggesting its safer to tow and just bring the vehicle in. Also, would it be wise to allow a shop that specializes in repairing BMW's to investigate & fix the problem, or is the dealer a better fit for the repair job since e92's are relatively new, more complex, and filled with problems.
Can anyone provide some insight?? Any info would be much appreciated. I can provide pics of the leak beneath the car if that helps. It's basically black and looks purely oil based and is at the rear engine level. Also, any estimate of what the required fix is, and what a reasonable price to fix this would be? I am really afraid of getting slammed with $5k repair job.:help
