The best option IMO is the H&R Cup Kit (http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/p1706/H%26R-Cup-Kit-for-the-BMW-E9X/product_info.html) which is a matched spring and shock combo that will replace the factory springs and struts all around. These kits are designed for street use so they will firm up handling without being too harsh for daily use.
Another option is to just replace the springs but you will end up replacing the shocks down the line so I recommend doing it all at once.

I have run H&R products in several of my vehicles and they have performed great, only problem is they are a lot stiffer than other brands out there - if you have ever driven a slammed car around Chicago you will know what I am talking about!! I would look at the KW as a viable option as well, and lastly Vogtland makes a great coilover kit. Both of the mentioned IMO are a bit smoother than the H&R.

Are you referring to their coilovers or spring/shock combos? I agree that their coilovers run stiff but their spring/shock combos are a solid compromise.

OP did not specify if he had regular or sport suspension (assuming regular). Is the H&R Cup kit much improvement over sports suspension?

ok, so is the H&R Cup Kit for the sedan only? I have a 335i coupe and want to lower it as well. I want it low but dont want to $ for coil overs. Let me know if there is a set for the coupe...thanks!!!

It is a substantial improvement over stock, it offers more direct handling and less body roll through the corners.

H&R lists it for the sedans but coupes can use the same kit.
