Service engine soon light just came on

And my car is in the shop, under warranty repairs.

Turns out something known as a "temperature gauge" was malfunctioning.

Anyone knows what this is, and if its a serious problem?

They are ordering the part and it won't be fixed until tomorrow.

All modern fuel injected cars have tons of sensors (air temp, water temp, manifold pressure, idle air flow, etc, etc) which occasionally break. This is nothing to be concerned about IMO.

Sensor replacement is simple unless there are a lot of parts in the way that need to be removed to get to it.

Just got the car back from the dealer today. The service staff managed to replace the temperature sensor and the car seems working just fine. Interestingly enough, had the service engine light not come on I would never have known anything was wrong - there was no indication from the driving/performance. But I am glad its fixed. Who knows what might have happened if the temperature sensor malfunctioned and the defect wasn't picked up?

Also they washed my car, which was a very nice touch.
