I am thinking about doing the stage II dinan upgrade. My 335i does not have an oil cooler so i would have to have that installed also for stage II so it gets pricey so my question would be is it worth it and if so could you elaborate some.
Thankyou

Save yourself some money and just get a BMS JB3

It really comes down to how hard you plan to drive the car. The Dinan software also changes the speed of the water pump to compensate for the higher temperatures generated with the extra bhp. The JB does not. This probably doesn't matter unless you run at a track or do really high temperature hard driving like summer in the Georgia mountains. The JB guys are just as fast as me on the back straight at Road Atlanta but they do seen to have a limp mode problem after a couple of hot sessions. I've had stage 3 for over 2 years and never had that problem, touch wood. Some BMW dealers are also Dinan dealers, Global BMW in Atlanta is one. That would make any warranty questions moot, I think.....

So what is there any truth to some speculation that BMW and Dinan had a falling out in their relationship?

Nope. The upgrade to the 335 is the biggest selling product in Dinan's history. They've been doing a sale in response to the Dinan-BMW victories in Rolex and actually have had problems meeting demand on some products. We've been waiting 4 weeks for an exhaust for my wife's car.

I won't pretend to know the true and correct answer, but what I can tell you is what my local Phoenix dealer told me last week..... They said that if I had my 335i ECU flashed with the Dinan software, it would void the warranty with BMW directly if the warranty issue was related to the mod. The example they gave me was if I had a window relay go out, it would be covered under warranty. But if I had engine or tranny type problems they would not cover it because it was possibly related to my Dinan boost upgrade.
I guess it's possible that if I had the mod done, then had warranty issues down the road, I could fight this and possibly win. But If the dealer was already telling me we won't help you if you've had the Dinan flash, why would I risk it. (I'm envisioning a scenario where I have to pay for the fork out of pocket, then sue BMW to get reimbursed)

Then it's covered by the Dinan warranty. I've had one small problem since the Dinan upgrade, found by the dealer who actually offered to fix it under warranty, but I took it back to Performing Imports instead and they fixed it under warranty with no questions asked. If you are going to modify the car Dinan offers a level of security that you don't get anywhere else. The problem is you pay for that in what you purchase from Dinan. If that's not acceptable or you are risk adverse don't modify the car.
