On my second M3, and both cars have had stock suspensions. When they were new, the rides were a perfect balance of handling and comfort for my city driving.
The second m3 has 65k miles and the suspension is a little soft in my view (oem and now 11 years old). Talked to Bill at Bimmerclinic in NJ and he recommended going with the stock set up again as anything else will be harsh.
but in my search, i can't see a single post of someone replace the suspension with stock stuff--is there a reason why?

Most people want to lower and have firmer ride..nothing wrong with OEM stuff again.
I'd suggest Bilstein HD's with the stock springs and what-not. I did HD's all around in my E34 (all stock) and it rides fantastic. Slightly firmer than stock, but a welcomed more controlling feel without being harsh.
Honestly, i would go with Koni`s and stock springs. Will last longer, come with a lifetime warranty on the shocks/struts, and offer just as smooth of a ride, and is also slightly adjustable if you do feel like being a bit more sporty.

I have never heard of a Koni lasting longer than a Bilstein.
