I have a flywheel from a e28 535, and am wanting to do the swap because my throw out bearing sounds like death and my dual mass rattles to an extent in which I am worried about it exploding. I would like to start gathering parts, but I am unsure about what exactly I need. I was assuming sachs m5 clutch kit? what about pilot bearing? Random springs and clips and shaft lube? I know the flywheel bolts have to be the shorter ones for the single mass. What about the spacer that shows up on realoem? I read that some on the forum did not use such a spacer and have had no issues. I would like to get all the proper parts and do this right. Does the slave cylinder need to be for a single mass? or are there differences?

e28 535i clutch kit will be fine, but you could also use the euro M535i or E28/E34 M5 clutch kit.

Pilot bearing for e28 or e34 535i will be fine
Flywheel bolts should match the flywheel application
current slave cylinder will be fine
replace the plastic clutch fork pin
rear main seal
transmission input and output seals
selector shaft seal

Make sure you get that spacer for the flywheel. BMW puts it there to equalize the tourque from the flywheel bolts. Check realoem, but I think it is the same part for a ton of applications both m20 and m30 sinlge mass flywheels. That should be it. I just did the clutch and installed an m5 14lb. flywheel and m5 clutch kit. It is nice, but you'll have to learn to shift quickly before your RPMs drop like a rock.

+1

When I did my e28 conversion on my 535 I used a sachs e28 535 "stage 2" kit which came with a throwout bearing which worked fine, I re-used the spacer from the dual mass flywheel, I bought the e28 flywheel bolts and a e34 pilot bearing new from Autohausaz. The stock slave cylinder work fine with the new set up.

I thought you also needed an e28 starter but I could be confusing this with another swap

When you are taking the old clutch out just be careful with the Allen bolts that hold the pressure plate on I striped one of mine and had to cut the head of the stupid thing off.

I see, well I want to replace my slave anyway because I am pretty sure it is what is creaking when I clutch in, plus it isn't too expensive of a part anyway. I already did my selector shaft and output shaft seals when I did my guibo and shifter bushings. And where is the best place (cheapest) to get a m5 clutch kit.

So I am about to pull the trigger on the items pictured, plus possibly this clutch. Let me know if I am setting myself up for success or massive fail. Oh and I know the temp sensor is not required for the clutch.

Edit: That seller also has a stage 2 and 3... ideas? I may go turbo in the future, but I don't want to have an uncomfortable clutch or an on off switch clutch.

The list of parts looks good. I would add the gasket for the rear main seal housing. Also, I am skeptical on that clutch kit. I looked at it when I bought mine. I actually called "Gripforce" and asked them who manufactured the components in that kit. They couldn't tell me what everything was and who it was made by. They told me that some of it was their "house brand."

I went with a Sachs kit for the m5.

Is there any place to get that Sachs kit for anywhere close to what this kit costs? I really don't want to spend 500 for the clutch kit.

Anyone know the best place to get the sachs kit? I am getting antsy to buy all this stuff.

Hmmm, I am having trouble finding the gasket for the rear main seal housing on pelican
