View Full Version : Buying a used bimmer question
Is a 2001 BMW 325i with 70,000 miles that was used as a "fleet" vehicle worth $18999? It looks in perfect condition. Kbb lists it as 18200, but does the fact that its a fleet vehicle lower its value?

what is a fleet vehical?
I'd stay away from it. Just my opinion. For 19K you can get a nice BMW with a lot less miles on her.

what years are you looking at? What is your price? Don't get the car with the lowest price you can find, because there IS something wrong with it. And I wouldnt' touch a car sold at auction. If you can't afford a 325, go for a 323, you hardly loose any power and that will knock off a few grand. All power lost I'm sure can be made up with some mods anyways.

Fleet= Company car= someone driving that has no vested interest in it what so ever = Piece of crap. Avoid like the plague.
Patience grasshopper. And if you buy a BMW used, have it checked out at a BMW dealer first. I paid $150 to check a car that I was ready to buy. Had over $2,000 worth of hidden damage.

If you look at the dates to when it was listed as a fleet vehicle and then sold again, it is a very short time, only a couple months or so. I'm no expert on how auctions run, but my guess would be that some sort of dealer bought it and titled it in their fleet with the intents of selling it right away.
Any way around it, the vehicle was also a lease and it has imo high mileage. I would probably stay away from this one. If you do pursue, ensure that you get the proper inspections done prior to purchase.

I would not be turned off just because it was listed as a fleet vehicle. I bought my car with a similar looking owner history. However, the miles were much lower and it still had a factory warranty. I had it inspected and the dealership fixed a couple of items still under warranty, otherwise they said it was a clean car. Also, when a person buys their car after the lease expires, it shows up as 2 owners on the carfax, when techincally it was only 1 driver.
I'm not positive, but I think almost all cars that come off a lease will have a listing as a fleet vehicle for some period of time after the lease, correct me if I'm wrong. Also, most leases are usually 12K miles a year. This car was driven 23,000 a year on average. So, the first owner either went way over on miles or the second owner put a rediculous amount of miles on this car in 1 year. Stay away based on that, not that it was a fleet vehicle.
If I had a budget around $18,000, I'd get a 318ti for around $12,000 and get a DASC, unless I needed 4 doors of course.
