View Full Version : Intercooled vortech, maf in piping?

Hello everyone,
For a while now I have had the vortech supercharger intercooled by a front mount, with a draw though set up (maf in front of s/c).
All is well, lost maybe 1-2psi, so moved to a smaller pulley.
Only thing that bugs me is, although very rarely the car bogs after a slow gear change around 4k rpm or above because of the long piping.
I'm guessing when the throttle plate shuts, the maf is still measuring some air.

So my question here is; can I put the standard maf after the intercooler, about 10inches after a 90degree bend. And place the diverter valve before the intercooler? For more accurate/snappy readings? All the piping is very dry, so no oil to screw it up.

Contact trm for a blow through setup

pics of engine bay/intercooler setup? I understand its not easy to do on the E36. IIRC it is possible to run your set up as blow through.

The short answer is that you would need a new tune.

we have a MAF that would be exceptionally well suited to being placed in a location like that.

I highly recommend TRM for a S/C tune.

This is interesting to me as I may build my own stg2 AA C-38 setup

I'll snap some pics soon, i don't have the steering rack in the way. So it might not be possible for your guys in the states. But yous have the room for a turbo :(

The intercooler is just a small ebay type (bar+plate) I got off my brother's 1.8T, 2.5inch thich by 7"tall by 21"long, 2.5"inlet and out. and most of the piping is all silcone 2.5"i. I'm looking for a bigger one, but want to stick with a 2.5" thick, so can still keep the bumper and grill intact.
I have never measured the intake air temps, but i remember when i had the supercharger without the intercooler, during summer it felt like it was a standard car. Now its much much better, only notice a bit of a heat soak in heavy trafic. But once you get moving all fixed.

I found a pic from a while ago.

Not much to see from the enigne bay, just a silicone pipe going down and under the sc and the 90 degree return to the throttle body. Also i moved my power steering tank next to the dipstick for more room.

But it will require adjusted part-throttle maps
