expert please help. can anyone tell me what you think is causing this to happen on the dash display. it sometimes works fine for few minutes then it start flickering, distorted.

I would start with capacitor replacement as outlined below, bad caps can cause all sorts of strange behavior. It's easy to do and not very expensive.I have performed this repair with excellent result. It does require basic soldering skills. FWIW

Experiencing the exact same issue on my 95 540. Occasionally it will work but now mostly it just does like what the video shows. I'll try the capacitor replacement and post results, thanks!

Capacitor replacement fixed it :)

My caps and locations were completely different than the directions but the general principle was still valid.

I wrote down and ordered all the caps + an extra set for about $2 + $5 shipping from mouser. Once I started de-soldering the old caps, I found that the first one had corroded and one of the leads actually fell out of the casing. At that point I just replaced that one and problem solved. In my case it was specifically a 16v 1000uF cap.

Hooray! Great tip! I'm so happy I can read my dash again. :)
