So I've not abandoned you my fellow BMW enthusiasts. I strayed for a short period of time, but I am back, albeit not in an e34.

Once I sold my e34 M5 aka The Black Bomber,

I decided to be somewhat reasonable and get something a little more practical, something 4 season friendly, so I bought a 2002 Range Rover 4.6 Borrego Limited edition.
Beautiful truck , drove super nice, I was super happy with it and my g/f was exctatic because she could drive it (automatic).

Alas, as much as I am a Rover guy (ive owned 3), I could not get my mind off a BMW... so the search began.

I considered a mint e34 M5 (dinan) but could not drive it in the winter(arguably).
I considered a mint e34 M5 V12 swapped, but could not drive it in the winter (arguably).
I considered a 530i M sport, but it was slow(ish).
I considered a 540i M sport, but it was almost the price of an e39 M5.

So I ended up with this, June/2000 BMW M5 Individual Executive Package. I am, once again, IN LOVE! Mods to begin shortly, but will keep them to a minimum.

Hey buddy. Nice buy. We should get Adam out and go do a photo shoot around town soon before he leaves.

Him and I did that yesterday, you were nowhere to be found! Gotta plan another one before he goes off to Montreal.

Question. Are the 2000 M5s really THAT bad and should be avoided at all costs? I've seen many under 16k and they are tempting.

there is nothing wrong with a 2000 M5, I am not saying that because I bought one either, this car fell in my lap, literally, wasn't what I was looking for AT ALL!

There are a few things to remember when buying an M5.

1) Maintenance/service history
2) 2000 IS NOT the first year for M5's, they were built in the EU prior to that
3) If you want less (presumably) oil burning, get a 03/00 build date or later to get the updated piston rings (only mechanical difference between 00 and 01-03). Mine is an 06/00
4) Vanos spring between 00 and 01+ is different, however there was a recall (iirc), which means most were probably done (they can check how it operates at your PPI)
5) Do you care about jeweled headlights ( I don't like them), LED tailights ( I already got an OEM set) and a bigger Nav screen?( I could careless since I barely use it).

All people who actually know what they are talking about on M5 board will tell you to find a WELL maintained one that wasn't abused--no one will mention year in there at all.

Thats only for people who car about aesthetic over everything else and would rather have Angel eyes and bigger nav to show off to their friends.

Be carefull with the really cheap ones, especially if they've been modified.

Mine is a 2 owner, service completed on time, completely stock.

I bought a 2001 Imola on Carmel for my DD duties as well. I LOVE IT, best daily you could have IMHO. I think this car fits into the E30 M3 category, as far as peoples misconceptions. E30 M3's are VERY well built engines and may of them run a LONG time, it is the same with the E39 M5, other then a few differences its very similar to an M62, but again just my opinion.

What cool stuff is in the exec package?

Well, it is kind of hard for me to distinguish where the "Canadian-executive package" ends, and where the Individual begins.

It has leather center console, no leather dash, has the leather door panels, the vertical stitching leather seats, rear sunshade, Parking Distance Control, and brushed aluminum trim.
The color is also something along the lines of "teknik" as opposed to Jet Black.
