mini cooper for a guy? some people say its gay :(

i want a mini cooper really badly, but i have lots of friends and people saying that they are a "gay" car for a guy to drive or a woman's car

and since i have nothing against gays or women lol it really shouldn't bother me, and it really doesn't that much, just slightly... like it makes me sad that people would judge someone based off of what they drive or even worse someone would make fun of my car (that will be my child when i get it)

i find this very offensive as to me it looks like a small car, european styled (which makes it more awesome) and unisex in nature

should i just get the car i want, or should i hear out what the chicks dig these days?

My opinion is that some people are insecure. Don't let some morons opinions keep you out of a good car. But I guess us ladies have good tastes in drivers cars minis, miatas, boxers all great cars.

You're canadian and you sound like you're obsessing way too much over this, ergo people probably think you're gay already. The car won't change that.

Here's the solution, get a truck, a big lifted 3/4 or full ton. Be sure to plaster clever slogans such as "I'd rather be cummin than powerstrokin'" and toss a set of bulls balls on the back, because nothing screams "hetero" like dozens of phallic references on your vehicle.

Conversely, get the S, toss on a crapload of JCW products and get huffy with everyone. People like that.

What do I know, I drive a Z4, previously my DD was a 318ti, I have a pink 2002. I have a 2 foot long chicken on my track car. I own well over 6 purple shirts. I wear 600 dollar cowboy boots. Wait, what was I getting at?

OP, wouldn't worry about it, if you like the car.
I think it's partially just an American thing where 90% of the country wants to drive huge cars & those of us who like small cars are the far minority. The smaller car is seen as "cute" and "feminine".
I'd have no problem driving one.

The AC on my bf's 2009 Imprezza broke two weeks ago. Really stupid fan clutch design. Stupid enough that it breaks so often that it took them two weeks to get the part in. He's been driving my car a lot since the AC broke... pink sticker on the back and all.

I would have loved a MINI, but I have to have my instrument cluster right in front of me. I can't handle the speedometer being in the middle of the car (at least that was the model I was looking at). But, thats just me. If you like it, go for it!

So my built B35 E28 is slow because I dont like small cars? that makes sense.. My 370Hp/530Tq gas truck whips small sports cars on the daily. The only Mini I ever drove was the first one off the truck when we got our first shipment back in early 01' ish.. Btw that sig pic is 5 or 6 years old the car has been lowered since then.

Or, you could just buy the car you have the most fun in and not care about what people think. That's what I usually do. :)

Just a comment on that sentence: maybe in a straight line up to moderate speeds but everywhere else, just a bit of corners and you are a speck in the rear view mirror in any pickup or SUV (except X5&X6 M-models and the more powerful Cayennes). Even an Merc AMG SUV can't handle a sporty stock hatchback, either can the Range Rover Sports Supercharged.

I rented one yesterday for a business trip across two states. Let me just tell you this car is a blast to drive. 6-speed, light and nimble. I had to make a small adjustment coming in to a hard corner in the mountains where my e28, e39 and e60 slam through with no problems. Again, this is on stock tires and at higher speeds vs. my highly modded vehicles. I am by no means gay or curious of them. I just love cars that are fun to drive...it kind of feels like my 1973 2002 roundie (I always said the 2002s were like an old school MINI)

My wife and I currently own an '02 MCS (gay), 99 Miata (gay), 77 Fiat Spider (old school gay) and '00 Z3 Coupe (ambiguously gay). Maybe we're trying to tell ourselves something. By the prevailing logic our '03 Element should also be gay.
