Circled wiring in question, can't figure out what is what :shifty

The two wires I think go to spark plugs and other two are cut :(

Take your hand off of that wiring so people can get a clearer view.

the wire you are holding connects to the BM-1 BMW diagnostics connector. There 2 wires going down to a water temperature sensor and a remote thermometer sending unit (on the cooling pipes to the back of the head). Then there are probably various wires going down to the transmission.

I will get back to you with that after I get out of work :)

Thank you, for some reason I was thinking those two wires are for oxygen sensors. Any idea what are the cut wires are for? I will post close ups later.

maybe the two wires going down (not the ones to the cooling pipe on the back of the block) are for the o2 sensors. Maybe the cut wires were transmission wires that were cut? you are doing a 6spd swap aren't you?

Swap is done but I have horrible idle issues; is there anyway you can check the wiring on your engine and let me know where they go?
As promised, better pictures:

The wiring on my 540it/6 is hidden by the engine acoustic cover I could not see without removing the cover. I didn't want to do it in the dark. But I have two other sets of V8 engine wiring harness in the garage. One of them is close to what you showed in the series of pictures. The main loom which goes into the rear of the plastic wire enclosure on the passenger side has seven looms,
1. one engine diagnistic plug,
2. two engine temperature sensors each with a standard two prong Bosch plug,
3. two O2 sensor plugs,
4. one EGS plug (automatic transmission),
5. one ground.
3. and 4. are quite long as they go to the bottom of the car below the shifter area. The remainder are short.
I can't help you with which wires are cut. Perhaps you should consult the ETM.
PS: Looking at your pictures again, it appears the cut loom (it should have many wires) goes to the plug behind the automatic transmission. If you have converted the car to 6 speed you do not need that loom and it is okay to cut it. I have the EGS loom hanging loose in the engine compartment and rest on top of the winshield washer reservoir.

Thank you, so I will rule out this as an issue of horrible idle. Really appreciate it. If FPR and ECU does not fix my issue I'm going to be :(

looks like the plug to the ACS+T sensor that connects to the portion before the TB.

Did you check the engine main ground cable between the passenger side engine mount and the car frame?

was yours deleted? you have a plastic one looks like instead of aluminum like mine.

Not yet, I'm going to go under the car tomorrow, got home and it was getting dark/I was too tired to jack the car up and get messy.

The plug near ICV? It was always plastic IMHO my car build is '95

By daylight you should be able to see or feel the ground cable from the top with the hood open.
That with ASC+T probably has an alminum housing like mine. See picture.

Interesting, so it should be somewhere under the MAF right? Does it look like a black cable with two ends?

I don't have ASC+T and also have a spare plug but it is a 2 pin plug where yours looks like a 3 pin plug.

Thanks, maybe wrong plug was plugged into icv or what not, doesn't hurt to check.

It is possible. Look up the ETM. You can check continuity of the wire in the plug against same in the DME connector to verify the correct plug is on the right socket.

Thanks, I looked at the car briefly before work and could not see ground wire or openings for one. Looked around the area where oil cap is (under) from top of the car. Is it on front passenger mount or back one? :shifty

Locate the stud welded to the car frame (with a M8 nut) in front of the AC compressor pulley in the following picture. The thick ground cable is connected to that nut. The other end of the cable connects to a hole on the passenger side engine mount bracket.

You are really a life saver :) Thats the ground right:

I also circled the ground on the hood.
Woot, my CPS and throttle position just came in!

Horrible idle means you probably switched one of those plugs around. IIRC, there are 4 plugs that look similar
one goes to ICV (which I think you have correct since its the one with the white end)
one goes to ASC+T (which you don't have)
one goes to throttle switch
one goes to intake temp. sensor on the lower side of the intake manifold on the passenger side.
Make sure you have all of these in the correct spots, or else you will get a nasty idle...ask me how I know...
As far as the cut wires, I am not sure where they go. If I have time after work I can shine a flashlight down there and see.

I went and looked at my plugs and this is what I got.
White is the ICV
The two pronged one goes into the temperature sensor
The 3 pronged plug with the push in clip goes into the throttle body switch
The 3 pronged plug with the little metal retainer clip on it goes into the ASC+T switch.
Couldn't see where the wires you have cut on the back of the engine go, either to the transmission or the O2 sensors.

Thanks, I checked to connectors and they seem in good shape. Ground is there but I have no ground running from frame to the hood; not sure if I need that at all.
Idle issue is still there :(
Is there a cheap DIY to smoke test the intake system? The smoke machines run up to $700 and local guys want $80 for half ass attempt to smoke the system and refuse to let me overview it.
