my 89 525i played a nasty trick on me! in jan i tagged it up and on my way to get it inspected it started missing. by the time i was 3 miles from home i was prayin to make it.... since then it has got a new fuel pump and filter, 2 sets of known good injectors, throttle body, plugs, wires, cap n rotor, tried 2 known good air mass meters, all hoses and bellows insp and replaced as needed. compression is good all the way across
it has no hard accel throttle response, and will only rev under very easy pedal. at 3,000 rpm it drops cylinders like no tomorrow. once past that it'll wind right to the red. it is running very lean at rpm. it idles perfect.
IT MADE ME EXTREEEEMLY ANGRY TODAY!!!
any help would be greatly appreciated...... thanks steve

I'd take the timing cover off and make sure you didn't jump time on your belt. You can jump a tooth or two and still have it running with those symptoms.

I'm thinking you'll see a bad rocker under the valve cover. If no something is binding the AFM flap would be my first guess. So have a way to try swapping ECUs? See if the signal from the computer is messing up. And what is the mileage on the oxygen sensor? You can unplug it at it's connector and run the car. The engine will default to running too rich but if the bad sensor is leaning out the mixture and causing it to almost stall under full throttle then it will run better with the 02 undone.

the rockers are all fine. i've now tried 3 known good afm's..... the only thing i dont have another of (in all my bmw parts) is an extra ecu for this beast.... lol i think i'm gonna have to swing by ebay and see if i can find one.
the o2 sensor is, i believe puked, but the car doesnt richen up when unplugged. it still goes full lean and tries real hard to die under any acceleration.
the timing belt was right on the money, but since i was in there i pulled a new kit off the shelf and changed it.
i'll try an ecu and post result
thanks......steve

Before you pay ebay pricing check the part number between our 525is and E30 325I/Is cars. Should be ECUs for sale on here/ r3vlimited.com for less than the bay.

We have one at the top of our page. And go to the E30- specific section and wheres one at the top of their page. Then theres a general classified for all cars. And If I'm not mistaken the # ends in 173
