Found a 95 540/6 and wanted to know how to check to see if it is a true 540/6 or one that was convertred. Is there some letter code in the vin to check or do I just need to run the entire vin? Should have the vin tomorrow.

I think the vin code starts with wbh or something. Kesslerbmw recently made a thread about his and the code was brought up.
Was it you that had those trashed msystems?

IIRC the designation of HE53 for the production code signifies a "real" 540i/6... somebody correct me if I'm wrong...

Only m cars have a wbs vin, all others are wba. Almost any web vin decoder will rell the story.

HE51 for euro 540i/6
RealOEM tells if it is HE51 or not at the Production Code.

Just curious, but why are you concerned if it was born that way or created? I would almost prefer a swapped car because that means somewhere along the line an owner cared for the car.
