1995 540i automatic :help okay so long story short...im at a shell station get out to fill up my car...my freinds sitting in my passenger seat. i come back and hes playing with my shifter knob it didnt have the screw in it because it poped out a feww days ago and i just forgot to put it back in so of course it was loose. he ended up ripping it off:mad...luckily he didnt break anything:eyecrazy but i had to have my brother drive me over a pair of needle nose pliers to get the plastice rod peice out of the metal tube because i COULDNT shift out of park and i was running late for work. so i ended up getting the plastic peice out and put it back in the handle and put it in the metal shifter tube. its obviously not in correctly because the button you press to shift it to differette spots is pressed in constant and it just glides where your push it with out pressing in the button....CAN ANYONE POST ME A DIAGRAM OF THE SHIFTER SETUP OR STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS TO GET THE KNOB BACK ON CORRECTLY BECAUSE I CANT SEEM TO FIGURE IT OUT AND EXACTLY WHAT GOSE WEAR?

There is a little hook (for lack of a better word) that the rod is attached to in the shifter knob. Once you have the rod and knob connected to gether you need to push it into the shifter and put back in the screw to hold it in place. Sound like you don't have the rod and knob connected correctly, or you don't have the knob in the correct position on the shifter.
