It's whatever you want - color's just a preferential thing... IMO I'd pick #3

#2 and #3 are sick. Maybe a color kinda in between them?

2 or 3 I am torn between the two.....do one side in 2 and the other in 3.

I think 2 stands out enough to look really good. 3 is good if you don't want attention.

i like the last picture personally. Im fully supportive of gold on the black touring, just not that shade of gold. See nismoracers gold for a good example.

I like them all myself.
I do like the gold, and yea, not that shade. I think I could pull of the gold or bronze cause the rest of the car is blacked out.
I also like the black, but way to common, and an easy conservitive choice.

I'm really not digg'in the silver. Would like to pick up some three piece with lip, but not in the cards at the minute.

Why do people like to have gold wheels ? Especially on this car... Is it because they all want to be original but they all end up to be the same.....Since Subaru started the gold wheel fever everybody wants goldish wheels on their cars. Bling Bling ...
I vote for the original silver color or # 3.

Gold wheels go back to the 50's. There was also the hurst olds of the 60's, Vega Cosworth, 455ho TA and the Shelby GT350H (Hertz Rental).
Subaru is not original. I'm an older dude tryna to bring back what's old.
My thought is more of a 70's bandit look minus the scream'in chicken.

Besides, there are to many cookie cutter cars out there. Just MHO of course.

Never been a fan of bronze on the schwarz cars.
That being said I would shoot for a gold similar to that of the older STI wheels.

Then again that dark copper looks killer too.
I understand your predicament now.

A long time ago gold meant you had wealth. These days it's a SYMBOL of wealth, to the people that confuse the two. Want to start an army? Drag something gold colored through the ghetto and you'll have what you need. Gold is for people that want other people to see that they've got wealth.

When I think of cars from those days it's all chrome. I don't recall the H/O cars having gold wheels, same with the T/A and the 350H. They have gold trim and paint options, which is tacky enough. I don't know the cossy at all. Some things are best left to the past. The e34 already is completely different from a cookie cutter car, the only cars that even remotely resemble it are either e32s or e38s from the rear. You can't really say too much resembles our cars.

Never forget: AMC had Levi Jeans interiors in the 70s, Chrysler had PLAID. You don't see people clamoring to recreate those, except for southern hipster chicks. :shifty

I know there were pre Subaru cars that had the goldish wheels in different shades, but since Subaru put them on their street sti's lots of import car owners adopted that look.
This was the first Subaru that had gold wheels:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b1/Colin_McRae_Subaru_Impreza_WRC.jpg

94-95 Colin McRae limited edition only 200 made.

I don't think it ever passed a day without seeing at least one civic or integra ultra lowered bouncing all over the place with goldish wheels. That's one of the reasons IMO this look doesn't belong to the e34.

I think showing your wealth by painting your rims in a gold color is retarded.

GGray

I like the grayish. I'm painting the centers of my Style 5's an E46M3 mettalic grayish color with the fake nut painted chrome. Polished lips..

I like the bronze. Duplicolor makes a nice shade of Bronze in their wheel paint. I painted my E36M3 track wheels with it then clear coated them looks nice on a white car :cool

Man a cosworth Vega... We had one of those we took it on trade for a Porsche 911 way back.... Think mini trans am gold. Ours had a new decal set gold decals everywhereand a GOLD brushed aluminum panel around the gauges and consol if I remeber.. WAY 70'S looking .. and slow as piss...

^Thats what I had in mind for bronze.
The bronze in the p-chop is closer to what I was thinking for gold.
Maybe somethig in between that bronze and p-chop bronze.

I'm gonna pick up some paint and reducer (PPG base clear) when I get back from NYC.

I know it's MY car and to do what I want (I intend to), just I liked all 3 choices and could not deceide. I like them all equally. What sucks is I don't even really like the wheels all that much. But I'm kinda stuck with them for awhile.

Thanks for all the feedback good and bad. :-)

Because it looks good.

I'm gonna have something mixed when I get back home.
Should be able to prep and and lay some paint in a day.

I think I'm gonna go with a bronze, gold, copper concogtion.

My opinion:

1. A modern color, modern interpretation of gold wheels. Likely to look dated in a few years, like an avocodo fridge from the '70's. A bit too much contrast for my taste personally.

2. Classic gold. Reminds me of the John Player Special or late 70's Trans Am. Hard to go wrong if that's your thing.

3. Subtle, modern. Makes me think of precision machined parts.

Have fun with whatever you pick.

ShapeShifter
06-11-2010, 02:57 PM
I agree with what your saying. I loved machined metal.

I've deceided to go with paint because it's cheaper and I can change the color again in Agee months when I get sick of looking the color I choose.

More than likely I'll have another set of wheels by years end. I rarely keep a set of wheel more than year. When I had my 968, I went thru 8 sets of wheels in 4 1/2 years.

If you are going rattle can i suggest dupli color engine enamel. Its a nice flat gold color that is not to bright.

For some reason those wheels look small to me in the original post - maybe the tire size is too large or something. I think some wheels look better colored (aka style 5's) but I think your wheels look to small in the wheel wells to pull off a color other than silver...maybe with some smaller sidewalls...or with the car lower ...idk - I just think that style of wheel doesn't look good painted.
