it hurts! i will miss my e39m54b25! i signed the title & waiting for the check. i am like a boy in a toy store now. i have located two beauties & would like your opinion on them. quick pro's & con's vs.

1997 740li E38M62B44 113k well maintained. (bmw dealer high milage lot) serviced locally.looked at it. pass w flying colors. looked at all common problem areas. (newer trailing arms. waterpump, valve cover, tb housing, hoses. no shims or shake it all speeds! tranny shifts great, no slips there either. from P-R-N-D-4 & all gears up & down. no kicks.) needs little in & out

or

1999 528ti E39M52B28 117k private party & going to look friday. YES ITS A TOURING!!!!
i have not put my see on it yet. will inspect e39 as well!!!!!!!!!!!!

both about the same price so that doessnt matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i6 5 series touring and v8 7 series sedan are two completely different types of vehicles.. I'd suggest sitting down and thinking of what you'll actually use the vehicle for everyday, then basing your decision off that.

know & completely understand, i had the i6 in the e39. that is the obvious answer. that is why i am asking. i like the sporty e39 i6. i need the extra room for the family & dont mind the bigger & not so nimble 7. not saying the feel or handling isnt there. i do know what i would be getting into. thanx

Please consider the maintenance on the E38, however, I would LOVE to have one!
PM/ talk to 525iFeen who has a nicely modded E38.
I would look at a 2001 740i sport with steptronic.

Thanks!
Jason

i have looked at all the years options at each year. i have to find a quick sale for now. i figure a good e38 tester car. if i get the E38 in the steptronic i would only be raping the car everyday. i would rather slow it down a bit & leave the e38 for the open road. my girl was a little shaken up being rear ended in the E39 sedan w the kids in the back. need a little more beef & room

From the info you provided, I think the 7 would fit your needs better. On a daily basis the space you will gain with the 7 will definitely outweigh the E39's nimble and quickness. There will be days you'd rather have the sportier E39 and there will be days you'd rather have the room of the 7. But from what i'm hearing, it sounds like you will have much more of the days were you'll enjoy the room vs. sport.

E39!
Even though I love E38's, I have to admit that they are starting to look outdated.

.... i need the extra room for the family...

Touring. loads of room.

If you're OK an automatic, and with maintaining an M62, then suggest you also consider a 540iT?

bummer about your car. hope you're OK. I had a car totaled like that once, same general area / type of impact. wasn't so bad; that's a cushy part of the car to have hit.

I like the Touring over the 7 easily

that looks like it was a really hard hit from the back. Glad to hear that the car took it and kept you safe.

I'm partial to Tourings...but if you do it look for a facelift 540...you'll thank yourself later.

I wish you were on the East coast so I can take the front end of your car....

i found a beautiful 01 e39 525it. i love it! low miles, well maintained local car. (no 540it around, please dont hate the I6 in the touring) i am going to go with the m swaybar in the rear and when the sturts are an issue will beef that up too! at 87k only two owner,i dont believe it was ever taxed!

i have already tinted*
paint protection is next.
upgrade to 18" or 19" oem.
70-75 shim and heard tierod end or a control arm bushing once or twice.
very minor, pull & inspect this week.
stealer once over inspection on whole car

i am sure i will do more. i just want to enjoy for a while first

Sad to see it go...

If my E39 gets totalled I think I will find myself at home in an E38. Even if it doesnt, I plan on having an E38 sit next to the beautiful E39 someday soon here.

Nice choice man. Facelift was the way to go, everything's newer along with being tighter (I hope).
I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
